    Deluge in Wisconsin

Well, Saturday we were out on the lake and noticed a storm coming in.  Instead of going back to the house we covered up the boat and sat ready to wait it out in the bar.  Well holy *@&#, 70 mph winds, the lake looked like the north shore of Maui in a bad storm.  The waves were 5 footers coming in.  It was scary, luckily no one had damage to there boat that we could tell.  The docks on the other hand were completly destroyed.

I don't think anyone got hurt too bad.  I fell though the dock when it gave way, I only bruised my thumb and right side of my body.  There was one guy that fell in, I haven't seem him since but someone said he broke a rib and they thought he punctured a lung.  Hopefully he is okay.

Mother Nature can be relentless, we had to pull the boat off the lake as the water rose 2 feet overnight.

Same monsoon type weather in Northwest Illinois along the Mississippi. Water rose almost 3' since 3pm yesterday.  I made an emergency trip to my slip this morning to remove my boat from the water and put her on the trailer.  The Army Corp of Engineers is predicting the river pool to be in excess of flood stage by this evening.  Coupled with a dangerous current, I decided to err on the side of caution and dry dock until things calm down.

Quite an adventure Kerry! Good to hear you didn't get hurt too bad.

How is it possible that the docks got destroyed without damaging the boats!?

Kerry, I see the fox river is overflowing again, there was talk on wgn today that some of the dams may give way. How are the lake levels on geneva/delavin? are they affected by heavy rain? We were thinking about heading up there this weekend.

     Stefan,

The boats only sustained minor gel coat damage.  A few of us helped others secure their boats so they would not get hurt, most of the boats were on the side of the dock so the wind was blowing the boat away from the dock.  The boats that were damaged were on the side of the dock that was getting blown into. The docks are wood and just set in the water, they are not pounded in.  In Wisconsin, we need to take the piers out every year.

    Chris,

Call the tourist information office before heading up for the weekend.  My understanding is that no Lake or River made it through this unharmed.  I was told that the lakes are already under no wake and may not be lifted for a while.

    Kerry,

Is Little Muskego Lake flooded?  I can't get a hold of my mom.  Do you know if phone service is out or anything?

and here in Seattle we are in June-uary.  highs in the low 50's, high winds, driving rain, and the snow level is 3000 ft.... all the snow plow guys had to go to work last night. It doesn't look anything like spring or summer here:(.  The Crownline is safe in the garage awaiting some sunshine.

    Ryan,

Things are pretty messed up around our area right now.  I wouldn't doubt that the phones are out in some areas.  Some areas I heard are still without power.  I also don't think that there is a lake in the area that is not flooded.  I called you and left you a message, if you would like me to I will drive down to the lake and check it out for you.  It is not that far from my house.  Call me on my cell phone.

    Thanks Kerry.

Everything is good to go.  Phones are just out.  I guess they really didn't get any damage or anything down by them.

Glad to hear it Ryan.  It looks like I-94 is shut down just east Madison because of high water.  Somewhere around Johnson Creek and Lake Mills.

    Re: Deluge in Wisconsin

    Update,

It looks like we will need to tow anywhere if we want to go boating.  Pewaukee Lake is not allowing any motorized boats on or off of the lake.  If your boat is out there, you are to leave it.  The water is so high that it is scary.  We took our boat off of the lake the day after the big storm so we can trailer it.  That was lucky for us.

The DNR says that they may open the lake to motorized traffic sometime by the end of July.  It may be sooner but don't count on it.  Also, you may not be able to make a wake until the end of August.

Well there is always Shelbyville.  Monte, you out there?
