    Re: 2008 Chicago Loop Cruise?

I'm tossing around the idea of flying into Chicago to check out this Looping thing!!  What time is everybody planning on getting to the DoubleTree?  I think I'll have to fly in around noonish for a decent ticket price.

Can I get to the hotel via Cab or other public transportation or should I drop the money on a rental?

I've got an Uncle in China Town that I'll probably spend Sunday with, is that far from where the hotel is?

And for the ultimate (I live in Florida and haven't lived in Illinois since 1996) question.  How cold is it going to be??!!!

Bring your parka !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Big Smile   Just kidding last year on the weekend of the cruise the weather was in the 70's  I am planning on being at the double tree on friday afternoon around 2 Chicago time.  I like to get there early myself it is about a 4 hour drive and after pulling the boat that long sitting in the bar and having a cold  Beer  is always relaxing for me.  Can't answer the rest of your questions but if you check out mapquest you might get an idea about the distance from the airport to the hotel.  Bill Burns lives in the area he might be able to answer the distance questions

    Re: 2008 Chicago Loop Cruise?

    In the 70's?  BRRRRRR!!

It looks like the Doubletree has a free (by reservation) shuttle service from Midway.  So I guess that answers that question.  Just need to figure out how much it's going to cost me!

    Re: 2008 Chicago Loop Cruise?

70's would be a gift Ryan - although we had that last year, there have been other years with temps 20 degrees cooler than that and rain!!  This ain't Florida!!!  Big Smile

Shuttle from Midway is a good idea, and Midway is a much smaller airport than O'Hare.  Chinatown is another story.  We will actually be on the edge of it during one part of our cruise.  But getting there from the hotel on Sunday might cost you a few bucks in cab fare, and then you have to get back to either Midway or the hotel from there, unless your Uncle can pick you up and do the driving.

Arrival in mid-afternoon on Friday is fairly common for those staying at the hotel.  Chance to get boats inspected and prepped, and of course, the meet-n-greet Friday night in the bar.

    Re: 2008 Chicago Loop Cruise?

Ryan - I am not trying to persuade you to NOT attend, I just want you to be well grounded in facts.  I'd love to meet ya!  Mother-nature willing, and it will be a great time.  Just want to make sure that you understand that when you step on the plane, much will be uncertain, including the possibility that the event might be less than great weather-wise (does NOT translate into not having a great time) or might not run at all if the weather is really awful (only happened once).

Ryan, I would definatly make a trip.  Samm and I moved before being able to attend, but we did get to meet  alot of great Crownies at the Chicago boat show.  Hopefully someday we'll get to see the Chicago Crew again.Wink

    Re: 2008 Chicago Loop Cruise?

@ Bain - trying to get registration open ASAP

@ Danny - there are a couple of places...  I'm hoping Dale Michalak will chime in here quickly since he lives in the area and has experience with the options available.
