At what point (level of water) should the automatic float switch turn the bilge pump on. I've tested the manual operation of the switch and it worked/turned the pump on, but when I put water into the bilge to test the switch's automatic operation, it didn't turn the pump on. The switch had water half way up the side of it if not more but it didn't activate the pump yet.

The switch is a Rule-A-Matic Plus Automatic Float Switch and the pump is a Rule 1100GPH Pump.

When you say you tested the switch, how did you test it.  Did you manually lift up on the float switch or do you have a "manual" swtich on your dash?

The float switches normally have to travel to their highest point before they are triggered.  But they are prone to failure as well.  I replaced mine with an all in one unit about 6 months after we bought the boat because the float switch went south on me.

I manually used the switch on the front-right hand corner of the float switch itself (you can see the lever/switch on the picture I attached). The dash switch also manually activates the bilge pump. I'm thinking the float inside the switch is stuck or isn't working...I don't know

What all-in-one pump did you buy and install?

I like that unit Ryan. Did the new pump discharge fitting/hose match the old pump diameter and have just 2 wire leads. I'm gonna have to trace the two wires from the exisitng switch and the two wires from the exisitng pump to see where/how they are interconnected.

The hose fit without issue.  I don't remember the wiring.  But I do remember I had one heck of a time figuring out the dash switch.  I think you can just wire it up straight 12 volts and there is an additional wire to add an override switch.  I can't remember exactly but I think I had to redo something on the dash switch.  It's been about a year since I did it.  I do remember using my test light quite a bit that weekend.

I think when ours came on the unit was just about completely covered with water.  Use a hose and fill it up till it comes on.  If your over it completely you've got a problem.  Ours worked as it should.  You do have to get a lot of water in there though.

I would guess that you didn't have enough water in the bilge.  Fill it up as Glenn says until the float is completely submersed as opposed to half way up the side.  I think you'll find that it comes on then.  If no, this should be a warranty issue!

Thanks for the replies I just assumed the switch would have triggered the pump before it (the switch) was submerged or almost submerged in water. I'll filler' up with more water this time and check it's operation again. Thanks.
