    When it Rains

I own a 2004 270CR.  Every summer we take trips on the Mississippi and sleep in our boat.  We usually put our boat in at Dubuque, IA.  One problem I am having is when it rains the water comes in through the windshield, funnels down in front to the side and then down to the floor.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I'm tired of pulling up the carpeting every time it rains.

I might be able to help. If this has not been done, you need to remove about a 2" section of the w/s mounting tape on each side near the rear. Email me at jduff@crownline.com and I will forward a photo of what it should look like.

    Re: When it Rains

The rain pools in a low area along the side of the side, then drips onto the seats/floor.  You can cut out a section of the black gasket in this area so water flows out.  My dealer did this for me.

    Re: When it Rains

I appreciate your help.  I'll have to look at that gasket when I get my boat home (out of storage) in May.   The dealer is sending me instructions to remove a couple inches of the foam tape the windshield is resting on and supply additional sealing tape to help seal the windshield door.  He told me then, any water that gets past the door will travel along the inner side of the port windshield rail, and much of it will exit the boat by going under the windshield.  I still haven't received this via mail yet to see what it is.

Do you trailer your boat?  I had asked in a seperate email if anyone trailered their boat and if so, how they handle getting on the boat at the dock.  Right now, I drive the boat off the trailer and away from the dock while my husband parks the truck, then I back into the dock and he steps onto the platform.   We tried both getting on at the dock but you can only enter the boat at the back and by then the front of the boat gets away from you.  How do you do it?

Jim, did I loose ya?  I still haven't received anything in the mail yet.  Getting the boat out of storage soon.  Can you tell me what I can go to my local dealer here to purchase for the windshield?

    Re: When it Rains

Jim, any luck?  I just checked with my local dealer and he doesn't know what I'm talking about when I mentioned the windshield tape.  He's never had the problem he said.  He also only deals with boats 24' and under.  I have my boat home now, but I have not received the sealing tape you mentioned.

Hi Marsha, I would love to know what tricks of the trade for keeping the water out. We have the same problem, so if you get any pictures or good ideas would very much appreciate to pass on any fixes, kadyrrc@aol.com  good luck and looking forward to see you on the river.  Thanks, Kathy Runge

    Re: When it Rains

    Kathy,

I'll send you the photos Jim sent me.  Our boat did not have this.  Unfortunately, we just had to take our boat to our local dealership because of engine problems and we asked if they could cut the holes in the side for water drainage.  Not sure if they are going to do it or not.

Anyway, I have not received the windshield tape Jim mentioned he was sending me and it doesn't look as if I'm going to.  I guess I'm going to have to figure it out on my own.  We have a big gap when the windshield is closed where the water comes in and I'm not sure how to close off that gap.  the guy at the local dealership says "I don't know of anyone having problems with it".  Big help.  In otherwords, no one has complained or they are making them different from the time we bought our boat in 2004.

If I figure something out I'll be sure to let you know.
