Nissan dumping Titan for Ram????
Someone on the other forum found some info that Nissan may be dumping the Titan and buying re-badged Dodge Ram platforms with tweaked sheet metal instead. Not sure how soon this will come about. Anyone else hear or read about this???

Re: Nissan dumping Titan for Ram????
I had not heard this Randy. Fairly interesting that they would want to dump a working product and chance a new design.

Maybe the links below will help. I am not sure on the life span of the Titan, it is no secret that the Titan has performed poorly in the sales arena. I tow with a 2008 Toyota Tundra Limted Edition Crew Max. Everyone that rides in the truck is very surprised by the comfort. I just like the big V8 for towing. BUT, with gas prices Toyota had to slow production on this truck. Gas prices and poor sales may mean the end of the Titan according to other articles I have read.

Re: Nissan dumping Titan for Ram????
True. I believe it is in 2010 that Nissan will begin purchasing the RAM platform from Chrysler and badging it as the new Titan. Assuming Cerberus does not do a yarxd sale with the Chrysler divisions. Currently intends to rebadge (and probably some new sheet metal) to the 2009 Ram which is ramping up to launch within a couple of months. I can't say too much but I do work in the industry and manage a program for the new 2009 Dodge Ram.

Re: Nissan dumping Titan for Ram????
According to Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault-Nissan, the Franco-Japanese carmaker is not interested in adding additional alliances with Chrysler at this time. While Chrysler recently inked a deal to have Nissan manufacture subcompacts to sell in South America, that is as far as it goes. "We have an OE deal. Period," Ghosn said during an interview at the Geneva Motor Show.
It seems Nissan's eyes are elsewhere. Watching GM sales in Russia double from 2006 to 2007, and believing the Russian car market may surpass Germany this year, Renault-Nissan wants its share of the pie, too. The first move was taken when Renault purchased a 25% stake in Avtovaz in December 2007. Avtovaz is Russia's largest automaker and the manufacturer of Lada, its best-selling brand. Now, the company needs to quickly transfer Nissan and Renault platforms and engines to Lada in order to modernize its lineup and compete with an increasing number of imported brands. Once that job is complete, Renault-Nissan will move towards assembling vehicles in Russia, as well.
Don't bet that Ghosn isn't still eyeing Chrysler, as he was quick to add, "We are going to continue to do deals with everybody when they make sense." Of course he will.

In a meeting this week I received confirmation (from Chrysler) that Nissan will be building the Titan based on the Dodge Ram Platform (DS). Titan program will be "DZ". Anything is still possible as Chrysler (Cerberus) is in difficult situation and continues to lose money. A sell off is eventually probably and in my opinion Nissan is eying Dodge Trucks and even perhaps the Jeep line. Tata Motors is another canditate (in my opinion) who has the purchasing power to take over one of the Chrysler brands. The industry continues to fall, hopefully the bottom is near. GM @ 50 year low and struggeling. Working in the industry for several years I see and hear alot of potentials. Anything is possible.

Hmm, I wonder if you are letting the "cat out of the bag". I was reading info to the contrary on the web . . . Thanks for the info. A buddy of mine is wanting to sell his Titan and was thinking this would hurt his resale. I told him GAS prices are killing resale.
Thanks for feedback/info.

Re: Nissan dumping Titan for Ram????
So sad:( I love my new Armada and i haven't had much luck with dodge. I also had a 2007 Tundra CrewMax Limited 4x4 for 6 months but was really disapointed with the quality of the truck... simply not the same quality and design as my previous 12 years of Toyota ownership (4Runners.) So i switched to the Armada... much better design and technology. I would LOVE the new 5.7L Land Cruiser YUMMY... but i don't have $72K to throw at a Toyota.

Greg;
What issues have you had? I have many cars, including 2 BMWs, 6 Chevs, 2 fords and bunch of toyotas and I have been VERY pleased with this truck. I have about 8K miles on it with 0 issues.
It is a 2008 Toyota Crewmax LTD 4x4 Sunroof, NAV, leather etc etc etc , I had a small lift and wheels installed.

Re: Nissan dumping Titan for Ram????
Mine was an 07 5.7 4x4 limited crewmax, white w/ redrock, Nav, sunroof, and just about all the other options. It was a good truck... but i think i discovered i wasn't a "truck" guy. Here's a short list of things that 'bothered' me (don't want to say they were 'wrong', I just had higher expectations.
- Interior materials... everything is hard plastic. The door trim included. That plastic is painted black and it scratches easily and fixing the scratches requires a can of paint.
- NAV/Tech... Toyota's newest gen nav system is really no different from the one they were shipping in 2003. No traffic, No HD, No integration with the car (tire pressure on the screen), etc. Again.. no broken.. I just had higher expectations.
- Exterior paint quality... certainly not the same quality as my previous (Japan made) Toyotas. My 98 4Runner and my 03 4Runners both had better looking paint after 90K miles than the Tundra with 6K miles.
That was really about it... overall it just wasnt the same design/quality as my 4Runners or Tacomas. again.. my expectations were probably wrong.
The Armada has the interior of Infiniti and the Tech package from Infiniti as well... plus it was a bit more manageable sizewise around town.
So.. no knocking the Tundra... I just feel that Toyota could have done a few things better.

Re: Nissan dumping Titan for Ram????
I guess everyone has their issues. A buddy of mine just dumped (about 3 months ago) his Armada for a Sequoia. The Armada (brand new) had lots of rattles and creaks. He is in Real Estate (commercial development) and said it was very frustrating when driving clients around. He has to take them into some semi "off road" situations when they are devloping some of the property. He said he would have taken a HUGE bath on the trade in.He is a top performer and his company pickedup the trade tab. He said he would not purchase NIssan again. Both of these units were LOADED. You can probably guess the deals he does are in the many millions so they want to "cater" to their customers . . .
But you love yours . . . so I guess it is "subjective" . .

Re: Nissan dumping Titan for Ram????
not sure what year Armada he had... the 03-07's are known for lots or rattles. For 08 they did a make-over... much much better. I wouldn't have touched a 2007 Armada. I had actually hoped to trade the Tundra in for a new 08 Sequoia... but i was really disapointed in the Sequoia as well.. same plastic interior and old technology (for a 50K+ SUV you just expect more.) Plus.. i was kind of bummed by the Sequoia's mini-van looks. So we went with the Armada. Is it perfect? No... i would much rather be driving an Audi Q7, X5, Cheyenne... but with the 240LS pushing 6500-7000 lbs (boat+trailer+fuel+stuff) i really don't have a ton of options.

What do you think about China's Cherry? $$$ shouldn't be problem there and it streamlines Cherry entering into the States market.
BTW... agreed, we got to be near the bottom at this point. (fingers crossed )

Not so sure on Cherry. All I know is the Big 3 MUST break into the emerging countries (China, Korea, Australia, Russia, etc) if they expect to keep alive. THey also must creat flexible manufacturing plants (which Ford has announced they are planning). This supports when truck sales are bad they can cut production and build cars at those plants instead of ideling them or closing down.
I believe it would also help Ford and GM if they bring their European designs here to the US. GM Opal has some VERY attractive sedans. I guess the big question at this point is, have the Big 3 acted too late or is there still time.
Titan is still on schedule (2010) to be built off the new Dodge Ram (with slight changes to make it "Nissan")
