    Marine Stereo

    Please Help

I am looking to install a new MARINE stereo. Over the past two years I have blown 2 Alpine systems ($400.00 in the hole) Both were intended for the car, I guess they could not handle the water. The stereo must have SIRUS and IPOD inputs. Once again please help on this my wife will kill me if I spend any more money on this problem,

    Thanks

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

We actually just asked the same question a few weeks ago.  If you look at the thread "what do we get?" you can read the wealth of suggestions we got.  Very detailed and I will post another website, not listed on that strand that I found in my search that had great prices for quality goods.

    Hu,

The website I mentioned is www.onlinecarstereo.com  it carries marine receivers, speakers, etc.  we looked at several sites, oncluding the ones recommended on our thread, and they beat all the priceswe found elsewhere.  Good Luck!

Wow I have used car stereos in my boats with no probs. I am surprised you can't get them warrantied? Also, you can purchase off ebay and get a square trade warranty for 2 or 3 years.  ARe you sure you are installing properly? ARe you blowing the fuses or the head units just dead?

BTW, if you open up a marine unit there really is not that much difference. Most of them have a sheet of plastic over the top but everything else is pretty much the same.

    Re: Marine Stereo

After reading all the suggestions we got, we remembered we had a set of 6 car speakers sitiing in a closet.  We also purchased a car receiver and installed it with the speakers in our boat 2 weeks ago.  WEe hope we are as lucky as many who said they have had no problem with their car stereo instalations.  We live in NY so once the season is over, we plan on removing our receiver completely, to avoid any weather related issues that can arise.

    Chris,

I just put a Clarion M475 head unit in my boat.  It is pushing four Kicker KS600 speakers and sounds pretty good.  The head unit itself is very nice.  Sat radio ready and a front aux input. Not a bad piece for about $150
