    Can't hear stereo while cruising

I have a hard time hearing my stereo when i am cruising, and others in the boat are telling me to turn it down. Has anyone added a speaker to the helm area to get more sound there? If so was it a smaller speker or one to match the rest? I guess the seat sits up higher the sound is beneath me.

I will be anxious to hear what others have to say.  Our 260 LS has speakers in the bow and near the back.  I am almost always at the helm, and I turn up the bow speakers so I can hear them when I am standing up to drive (which I always do).  I would love it if I could figure out a way to get a speaker by the helm, but there is very little room there.

i was thinking of just some smaller tweeters to push a little sound.it sucks to be the one trying to find something good to listen to and not even be able to hear what your picking out.

I don't have any problem hearing ours but then it came with the 9 speakers and a 10" sub as an option from the factory. Big Smile

Re: Can't hear stereo while cruising

Steve, what boat model do you have?  I looked but may have missed it.  More speakers could definitely help.  The problem with fewer speakers is you have to push them so hard to hear anything and those closest to them will hear EVERYTHING while you may struggle.  If you go with small tweeters though at the helm area, I doubt you'll enjoy the sound.  With the wind in the boat, most low frequency notes get washed away as it is and unless you have some subs pumping, it's hard to get good bass response while underway.  The tweeters will likely give you so much high end sound I think it will sound shrill and hissy.  If you've got a place to add speakers near the helm, that will definitely help.  Anything you can do to spread the sound out.  Also, if you have a recent Sony head unit, it may have a feature called DSO on it.  I'm not a real big fan of too much processing or sound fields in my systems but it kind of raises the sound of the speakers and gets it up off the floor of the boat.  There are usually 3 levels which you could play with to see if you like or if they help.

More speakers, maybe an amplifier if you don't have one now can really help.  If you can get speakers up high, even better.

Re: Can't hear stereo while cruising

    Randy,

I just purchased an 02 202 br and was looking at upgrading the stereo with 4 or 6 speakers and 1 or 2 10's for the bass, but I was wondering with the 202 (i don't have a tower) where you chose to place the speakers and the subs?  My first thought was the seperation panel between the front seats the driver and passenger consoles and where to mount the amps out of the way but to still get ample air movement?  I just saw that you have essentially the same boat as I do and have installed a good custom stereo so I was wondering some of your suggestions and if possible somes picks of yours.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Re: Can't hear stereo while cruising

Steve, i have a 18 br that came with the 2 junky speakers under the dash and i drilled hole in the bow for 2 speakers and it made the world of diffrence.  theres also extra speakers wires under the dash that run to nothing that will splice in great for the new speakers. although it was a heck of a time cutting a 6in hole in the fiberglass.

Re: Can't hear stereo while cruising

I put 4 speakers in the bow of my boat. Had to cut 2 new holes, but well worth it. I can hear my music while standing up at WOT!! Of course I have 12 speakers and 4 10" subs with 3 amps helping push the power.
