Help!.....I have a 2008 270CR with Merc 6.2 Seacore that when I have full fuel & water & 5 adults cannot get boat on plane, cannot get motor  to rev more than 2800 rpm, 11 mph. Even with less fuel & weight boat takes a good 30 seconds to get on plane.   

Definately a problem there.  What RPM range is that motor supposed to be in?  I'm guessing somewhere above 4600 RPMS so you are way low.  You've either got a spun hub on your prop(s) or something else is going on with the motor.

Or somebody messed up and put the wrong prop(s) on there.  What size prop is on the drive?  Maybe it's way overpropped?

 Do you have a trailer?  If so, put it on some muffs and pull the props off.  See if you can get the motor to sping higher than 2800 RPMs with no load.

 That should help narrow down the problem.

Sounds to me like either the wrong prop or the wrong gearing on the outdrive.  Probably a simple mistake made at the factory.  With that engine you should hop up on plane pretty easily and your RPM's should be around 5800 if I remember correctly.

Boat must be new, what does the dealer say?  The 6.2 should plane that boat nicely even with a load.  Something is wrong.  Is trim all the way down when planing?  What position are the tabs in?

I had the same problem with my 2008 CR.  I just picked it back up from getting worked on.  My problems were a leaking outdrive seal (not associated with the horsepower problem), the 12v outlets didn't work (they still don't) and I had problems getting on plane and a top speed of around 30 mph. 

The horsepower and planing problem was a sparkplug wire that was not connected.  It's amazing the difference on gas when you have all cylinders firing...  Much better.  The engine isn't working as hard.

My suggestion would be to not even mess with it though.  Take it to the dealer and let them figure it out.  My dealer (Tomes) is about an hour away by boat, along with all the jockeying with cars, but worth it.

When I have a load like that I don't get up on plane as quick as I would like. I have to ask a couple of the passengers to move forward, then I have no problem. Weight dispersment may be the culprit. Four people or less no problem. My 250 gets up and goes. Anything over that and full fuel/water I have to have some "weight" move forward. Your "crew", full fuel and water add over a ton of "cargo". Thats alot of weight to be pushing through the water. Anyone else experience this type of performance under full load?

When you shift the centre of gravity to the back, it will be more difficult to get on plane. Put enough load there and you will not make it out the hole at all, that's simple physics (says the engineer). People with bowriders and a mother in law will hardly ever experience this problem...

just got the boat back from dealer. turns out it had a bad fuel injector as well as wrong prop pitch; factory shipped with 24 and we needed a 22 pitch.

runs much better now like nite and day. 

I would start by doing a no load test at the dock first. See if you can achieve max rpm while shifted in neutral. That would rule out throttle linkage problems, etc. If you are able to get max rpm at no load, then you either have a prop pitch issue, or the lower end gearing isn't right. I would consult with your dealer at any rate. I only have a 3.0 and have trouble getting on plane if 4 adults are in the cockpit area and aft. I always associated my delima with just not having enough HP. Good luck.

Whoops, just noticed your last reply. Glad to hear that you are all set now. Have a great 4th. BTW to all, it appears that I don't have a lower seal issue. I think the gear oil that I was seeing was just from the work that was done, etc. My resevoir tank stays right on full.

Us folks with BRs also see this. The 180BR with 135hp engine is not very well powered if you put more than a few people in it, though it's fine once up on plane. I toyed with the idea of getting the larger engine, but for the lake I use/keep it on, it would have been wasted. But any of these boats will have difficulty getting up on plane if the load is not balanced or excessive.
