    "Porting" a Stainless Steel Prop???

Okay experts.  I had feller at the place where I bought my MQS4 SS prop tell me that I ought to bring it by sometime and let him "port" the hub.  He said it would help your hole shot.  Any one ever heard of such???

Not sure what they are talking about when porting the hub.  Usually, for performance they will balance and blueprint (makes sure all blades are very close to each other in pitch) the prop.  Some places will even thin the blades for performance, but then you open yourself up to a more easily damaged prop.  There is a guy down in South FL that did mine for $100 a wheel a while back and includes a mirror like shine to them.  Only thing is you need to ship them to him.  Several of us on this board have used him with good results...if interested PM me and I will send his info...maybe something to do after you WINTERIZE! (Yes, I said it out loud, LOL)

Porting a prop is very common.  Porting a prop aids hole shot, these are the holes found in props behind the leading edge of the blades on the barrel of through hub exhaust.  In the through hub configuration the porting allows extra exhaust into the prop blades so the prop can spin up faster to help the hole shot.  At speed the prop creates a vacuum behind it that pulls the exhaust past the holes instead of letting it go through them, so it's like they are not there.  If you try it and you're not happy with the porting, they make plugs to plug the holes.

Now that you explain I remember that now...been in the duo prop world too long now!  They usually tap the holes so you can plug them as well if you don't like the performance change.

My Rev 4 came pre-ported with plugs installed, I tried it with the plugs out and did not notice any read difference so I put the plugs back in........

    Randy,

What engine/outdrive do you have on your 202BR?  Isn't your REV 4 a four blade prop?  My boat just isn't running as good this year as it did last year and I'm not knowledgeable enough to figure out what the problem might be!  Honestly, when I went to the 4-blade, 20", SS prop from the 21" Alum that came on it...I couldn't really tell a drastic difference in the pulling.  I do realize that the boat weighs 3,500lbs or so, so it takes a lot to push it around.
