    Trim not responding at all

I have a 240EX with a VP dual prop.   The switch on the throttle raises and lowers the drive.

Worked fine prior to this past weekend. I trim it up as I come to our boat lift during low tides but I am typically idling as I float in.

I went out this weekend and it was not responding at all.  I was wondering if it was a fuse?  Plenty of battery power, I had it on dual batteries all weekend.  Thankfully the tide was with us.

any ideas and suggestions are very much appreciated!!

    Brian,

Since you boat in salt water you should check the wire connection to the trim pump to make sure they are not corroded.  Start there, if that is not it.  You will need to start at the throttle and with a test light make sure you are getting power to the unit.  Let us know, and maybe someone with more knowledge (Phil Belcher?) will chime in.

I had a loose connection one time at the battery that caused my trim to quit.

There is a fuse on the pump assembly itself.  I blew mine one time (self inflicted!)...if I remember right it is under a rubber boot on the pump.

Yep, there is a 10 amp fuse on the pump itself and I think 2 red cap, 50 amp circuit breakers on the starboard exhaust riser which provide power for the trim circuit.

Thanks guys, I will be checking those out this weekend. Thankfully, we will have the tides with us this Labor Day weekend so it will not be a problem.

Re: Trim not responding at all

I appreciated everyone's reply and wanted to let you know what the problem was.  The circuit breaker itself went bad and had to be replaced.  I appreciate everyone's suggestions and help.  Phil, I went through your diagrams trying to fix it but no good.

I ended up calling in a mechanic to help me out.

    Brian,

I am glad you were able to find the problem.  Thanks for posting the solution, that should help others in the future should they experience the issue.  Hopefully you weren't off of the water all that long.
