OK!!!   It looks like the wife and I  are seriously considering taking the ride to the rally this year!!! coming from the Jersey Shore I figure about 10 hrs. We will probably leave VERY early Fri. morning and arrive by noon Friday, and stay untill Sunday or Monday. ( we will have a few others with us) If you could add us to your mailing list with info that would be great. We will also keep an eye out for the website..... Thanx!!

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Bay Rally - need address & emails

    Thanks Carmine,

I'll get the postcard en route to you Monday.  We'll be sending out a couple more letter sized mailings with more info starting early April & again in May.  It's a lot of fun, cheap, & will meet a lot of new friends.   (You get back more than what you spend in food/door prizes, etc. It's NOT a money maker at all.  We get a lot in donations from Crownline, Tomes Landing Marina,  Porter Chevy, West Marine, etc. to help cover the costs.)

There's a lot of info here, & Mark's making a website on it, or if you want I can email an itenery.  Depending on how big your boat is, you might want to consider tailering down & launching at Port Deposit.  They have 2 ramps.  Not the greatest, but they work & will save a butt-load in fuel.

Carmine,  We usually leave the day before the rally starts, and leave on Monday morning.  We leave my house at 6:00am, and usually arrive at around 4:00 to 5:00 depending on how long our lunch stop is.  I also stop for fuel in Cape May at Utches Marina to make sure I have enough fuel to cover any delays or problems I may have going up the Deleware.  We usually lave Monday morning between 5:30 and 6:00.  Stop for fuel in Capy May again, then head up the rest of the way.

I hope you do make the trip this year.  The Chesepeake Bay bunch are great people and like to have a lot of fun, except for Tony, he's the boreing stick in the mud, but the rest are fun.

PS.  My signature photo was taken on the Sassafrass River in MD.  (Thanks John C.) If you look close, you can see the Bald Eagle above my boat.

Wow, it looks like you guys have the makings for a Crownvoy from NJ to the rally.  You guys should see if you can pick up a few more of the New Jersey crew and make it an official Jersey delegationBig Smile.

Les, that picture looks great in the signature block. I may bring a camera with a longer lens this year and try for some close ups.  Looking forward to seeing you all.

Thanks John.  The picture in the avatar is one you took also.

I have been trying for a few years to get more folks from this area to go.  It does look like there will be at east three of us from the Garden State this year.  Don't forget about Scott Brown.

    Les

That is a great photo that Cappy took.

He takes some nice shots, and the price is right too.

I have 2 photos Cappy took from the Middle river raft up last year, and put them as screen savers at wk and home.

Glad to see your bringing some more Crownies to the Rally...they'll have fun.

It's not that I am bringing them.  I haven't spoken with Carmine since last summer.  I do hope he does come though.  It would be nice to have other NJ folks there.  I'll have to find out who else he is planning to bring with him.  He will also have to make arrangements for a room in town unless he plans on sleeping everyone on his 32 bowrider.

    Carmine,

The Rally is at the Tomes Landing Marina on the lower end of the Susquhanna River at the upper end of the Chesapeake Bay.  The slips are private slips in the Tomes Landing Condo Association and the Marina makes arrangements for the slips for everyone.  There is electric and water at the slips that need them and there are also slips without electric for the smaller boats.

I see in your earlier post that you are planning on bringing others.  Are they other Crownline owners?  I would suggest you check with Tony Campitelli or Mark Huseman to see where you can make room arrangements locally.  There are not too many rooms available in Port Deposit, but I know some of the folks say in Perryville nearby.  Fortunately, my family stays on our boat as other cruiser families do.  I have been bringing one or two of my sons and my oldest grandson with me the past couple of years, and this year I think my younger grandson wants to come.  He can only come if his father comes too.  Last year is couldn't come and Harriet came along and helped watch him with me and my youngest son.

Looking forward to seeing you there, if you want to go up the day before the rally starts, let me know.  I like to get settled in before the rally starts and not just come off of a 10 - 11 hour ride, especially if the Delaware Bay and River are rough.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Bay Rally - need address & emails

I have the names of some places to stay the night at home on the itinery.  I'll post tonight when I get back home.

Most of what's in Port Deposit itself will be taken, but the hotel at the top of 95 in Perryville should have plenty of rooms.  Nothing fancy, but it works.  The only down side is it's too far to walk, so you'll have to hitch a ride with someone staying there, or someone can shuttle people around.

    It's only a 5 minute ride.
