Re: Who's attending the 2008 National?

Is anyone camping or staying at Waters Edge - we are camping at Site #6 (if you call staying in a 38 foot fifth wheel camping)

For those of use docking at Whats up Doc - has anyone heard if there is parking at the dock?

We are staying at waters edge.  Looks like you will be our neighbor.  We have sites 3, 4, and 5.  Leaving our boat at Whats Up do not know about the parking.

There's plenty of parking at WUD.  When you launch your boat - they'll tell you where to put the trailer (you'll see the trailer parking when you pull in) but for daily access, there's plenty of parking alongside the docks.

My dad was just telling me I might want to consider taking 255 south to the JB bridge and go over that way. With 40/64 being closed, they're restriping I-44 to get an extra lane in. Might make things a little hairy pulling a boat. That's what I plan on doing when we head down in July.

They did restripe I-44 to make another lane and it can be a bit nerve racking as the lanes have narrowed.  It's only about 15 miles and the semis can make it so technically you can make it too.  However, if avoiding moments that cause certain parts of your anatomy to pucker are on your "to do" list then I would suggest taking the I-255 route south around the JB bridge.  Personally I go out of my way to avoid 44 when possible.

We plan on going north from 55 around st louis on 270 and then gettig on 44 to springfield.  Is this a good route?  We normally go the KC route because we have stayed in shell knob.  But since we are at Kimberling, I think the stl route will be quicker.

    Scott,

Depend when you are hitting St Louis. I-270 North of I-44 is usually backed up. From I-55 from Springfield, IL, I prefer the southern route.Less traffic.

From LeClaire, have you considered I-80 to Iowa City then 218 South? I believe it is all 4 lane to St Louis.

I usually take the 218 south. It connects to 24/61. 61 south to hwy 19. Hwy 19 west to Hwy 54. 54 to Hwy 65 then South to Springfield.

Believe me you will save time and miles and stay away from St Louis.

The answer Scott might depend upon what time of day you are coming through.  From I-55 heading south into STL you have two choices.  A northern route and a southern route.  Essentially it's one highway that circumnavigates the entire metropolitan area.  They have two highway names depending upon where get onto them.  My experience is that the southern route around STL is the most consistent way to get to I-44.  What you'll do is take I-55 until you get into Collinsville IL where you'll take I-255 south.  I-255 goes south around STL and enters into MO by crossing the Jefferson Barracks bridge.  I-255 turns into I-270 automatically and you'll take the I-44 south exit.

If you are coming through in the evening or a time other than the morning or evening rush hour, you can take the I-270 east from I-55 and that will eventually loop you around the norther area of STL.  It's my general experience that this seems longer when trying to get to I-44, but I've never truly timed it out.

If that seems confusing, let me know and I can get on the phone describe it in further detail.

I thought the 4 lane stopped in mt pleasant.  Can any one verify how far it's 4 lane?  It looks like I can go all the way to Rolla, but I am not sure how the drive is in MO.  IU would love to avoid st louis traffic.

Re: Who's attending the 2008 National?

Scott, the direction you'd be heading (south) on I-270 wouldn't be bad unless you hit the stretch between I-70 and I-44 southbound between 2:30 in the afternoon till 7pm.  Other than that, it flows just fine most of the time.

It has been a while since I was that way. If it not 4 lane after Mt Pleasant I do know it is new 2 lane as they have the new bridge crossing the

Des Moines river open at the border. I thought MODOT had the 4 lane in Northern Missouri complete. If not it is only about 25 miles(Ithink) of two lane.

Good road tho. I would not go to Rolla. Keep veering west. Roads in Missouri are generally good.

With that rig you're in, you should be easy to spot!Smile  We should be rolling in around noon with a Dodge that's just as bright but red.
