No more fun at Shell Key :-(

See this link on Bay News Nine.  No more pets or alcohol on Shell Key, including in your boat.  Guess the standing in 2" of water rule like on Egmont Key doesn't apply here for enjoying a fine adult beverage.

Yes, Steve it is too bad.  As usual the few make it bad for the mass.  I retired from law enforcement and we used to arrest the bad and make things better for the majority law abiding people.  I guess they can't do that anymore.  It is easier to punish everyone than it is to go out there and enforce the law on the people that throw their trash and dog poop on the beach.  It is just too bad.

I didn't like that place much anyways.  Not much of a beach to hang out on and it was a PITA to get back there.

I don't agree with the decision.  I do think that there were problems down there but mainly on the holiday weekends.  We never achored on the back side because we have small kids and there was a ton of stupid people back there.  The question is, where do the fools move to and is the county and state going to chase them all over the bay.  Is egmount next or will it be beer can?  We need to stand up for our rights to be responsible boaters.  I think enforcment of good judgement by the law would be a better chioce.  Write tickets all day long and make it a bad place for the few isolated groups.  They will leave over time.

I have a wine rack on my boat.  If I pull into shell will I be breaking the law just having corked bottles on my boat?  Are we going to get boarded every time we pull in?   I just broke the news to my dog.  He ok with not going on the beach but he is barking about the fact he can"t drink.

     Keep the water free

LMAO about your dog!!  I agree with your point, this could set a precedent on other beaches in the area we do frequent.

I disagree with the comment in the article:

"Boaters disagreed, saying drinking alcohol doesn't affect the wildlife."

    Alcohol makes things much wilder!
