    Anyone willing to step up?

We had a great rally in 2007 mainly due to all the hard work that Travis put into organizing the event.  With the help of Laurie Golinski of Castle Rock Marine they put on a great event.

Alas, all things don't go on forever.  In Travis' email he said he will be unable to organize this years event.  I am hoping someone on the website might be willing to take over the reigns.  I am putting this out there early enough so any interested parties can contact Travis or myself for a place to start.

I thought about doing it this year myself but I am pretty sure my new job will be starting right after the 1st of the year.  It is not a matter of if I get the job but when it starts.  While I will be able to keep my vacation schedule I will not have the time to organize this event.

Sadly, my fear is that if no one steps up this event will be over for the time being.  I have enjoyed making the friends I have at this event and look forward to seeing them all again.  If it can't be at the rally, you will probably see me on Castle Rock Lake.  Look for Buddha's Pet

Re: Anyone willing to step up?

Thanks for the credit Kerry but in reality, you started this thing before I came around and you deserve alot of credit as well!!

As much as I have enjoyed planning this rally the last few years, I just decided it was time for me to allow someone else the opportunity.  No doubt there are people with fresh new ideas that I haven't thought of.  I've been very pleased to see it grow but with growth also comes some pain as well.  There were many hours involved setting up the website, getting a t-shirt design together, organizing the shirt order and dinner, collecting registrations and money, printing and organizing materials, creating name tags, researching and negotiating lodging and getting sponsors to donate prizes.  I don't list all these things to pat myself on the back - I just want whoever might be interested to know what has been involved should the same type of event be desired.  It's really alot of work for one or two guys.

On the other hand, maybe a simpler event without all the "bells and whistles" is in order because it's really about everyone getting together and enjoying each other's company and spending some great time on the lake and the surrounding establishments.  Maybe simpler is better.  But if the same type of thing is desired, my suggestion would be to have a committee of folks to get everything done which I would be happy to be a part of.

Laurie at Castle Rock Marine has been great and has indicated her willingness to do more of the organizing. If anyone is interested in what's been done in the past, the website is still there at http://webpages.charter.net/travjen/index.htm

I really hope it can continue as I think it's been a great time.  The ball's been swung to the opposite side of the court and now we just need some folks to step up and swing!

Re: Anyone willing to step up?

Given the amount of time it takes to plan a rally of this size it looks like this one will go the way of the dinosaur for now.  Maybe next year I can help.  Maybe Castle Rock Marine will just do a customer appreciation rally day.

Yeah - I talked to Laurie a couple weeks ago and suggested the same thing. She's pondering it. I think she's torn between doing her own thing , going the route we've been taking and continuing to grow the event or just giving the whole thing a rest. I told her I'd help in a smaller role but couldn't take the lead again. We'll see what she decides.

    Travis,

Have you talked with Laurie lately?  I am figuring that there is not going to be a rally.  Ann and I are still trying to plan a weekend up there.  I will let you know when we are going.  If Laurie and them are going to do something then we might try to make it that weekend.

Re: Anyone willing to step up?

I last talked to her mid-January and at that time she said she'd get back to me around the first part of February.  I haven't heard back and haven't tried to call as I know she has other things going on.  I'll get in touch with her in the next week or so and let you know.

You and Ann are welcome to come up to DuBay and hang with our clan anytime.  You met alot of them at the rally last year.  Otherwise, our group is going to plan a Castle Rock trip some weekend this summer and stay at Northern Bay again.  I'll let you know when we decide to do that.

Re: Anyone willing to step up?

yeah let me know.  I would love to come up to DuBay.  Also, check out Northern Bay, I was up in Tomah last weekend and I was told they were filing for bankrupcy.  Let me know what you come up with.
