    NW Swim Platform Installation?

    Happy New Year,

Have any of you in the NW purchased a swim platform from swimplatforms.com and had it shipped to and/or installed by a local dealer?  We are getting ready to pull the trigger on one and I need to figure out if I should have it sent home for an installation attempt myself, or to a dealer somewhere in the area.

Randy, I seem to recall that you have installed a couple of these?  Is it as simple as it sounds, with some helpers?

    Thanks

    Heath

Pull the trigger it will be the best thing you add to your boat. It is easy with a little help holding it up to mark for the holes to be drilled. You must make sure to use a high quality caulking .

    Thanks Dana,

We are looking forward to it, added safety for the kids swimming, etc. I assume high quality caulking = 3M 5200?  That's what I used on my drain plug repair.

    Re: NW Swim Platform Installation?

Heath, I purchased a platform and had my local dealer do the install. We love it! I had been waiting 5 years for a platform for the 266BR.

My dealer charged me $500 for the install. I do not like drilling holes below the waterline, so I felt safer with the dealer having the liability.

There are several people that have installed their own with no problems. You will like having the extra room.

    Re: NW Swim Platform Installation?

I have done it and have also installed 3 myself and getting ready to do another.  It isn't to hard if your are a handy person.  One trick is to use the outdrive to hold the platform up in place while installing it.  I have directions for this and a link to an install with many pictures.  I'll send it to you when I get home (at work now). You can see mine in my avitar.......

    Re: NW Swim Platform Installation?

Just put my order in, should ship in a couple weeks.  Looking forward to it.  Randy, you must be a hero down there.  They knocked off the crate fee since you've sent so much business their way!  Thanks!

They sent me the photo installation directions.  Looks a few challenges and some scary drilling below the water line!

Randy, where did you get your snap on carpet done?

Good deal, glad they are still discounting.....they are good guys.

I had a local upholstry shop do the carpet work.  They ordered marine burber in the color I wanted.

Holes below the water line...no problem, just seal them up really good. Theres only 2, one for each support pole and you do not need to drill them  all the way through.....

Heres a link to a fellow crownies install....some great pictures......

    Re: NW Swim Platform Installation?

Just picked the platform up from the dock.  Its in the garage in the box, awaiting install.  Looks like I'll need to recruit a few bodies, and get over the fear of drill holes in the hull.  Thanks for the photos, gives me a good idea of what it takes.  Swimplatforms.com also sent fairly detailed instructions.

    Any do/don't do tips?

    Thanks

    Re: NW Swim Platform Installation?

I got a swimplatform a couple of summers ago for my 266ltd.  Best money I spent on it so far.  I chickened out & had the dealer do the install for around 500.00 though.  If you go to their website, my boat is the one in the picture of the 266.  They have a couple of good pics of it.

Don't know of any local dealers that have installed one.

Good luck and take it slow….will take about 4 hours. ..locate the platform and check fitment before marking hole locations.  Stand back a ways and look at it form side and rear. Don't use a level as you may not be on a lever surface.  Use plenty of sealer, you can wipe off the excess, but can't easily add more later.  2-3 adults and small teenager work well.  Teen for reaching behind the motor to put nuts on bolts.

My wife, our 15 yr old and I did ours (first one).  I have an air ratchet and it really speeds bolt tightening.

    Keep us posted......
