Re: Projected Launch Dates??
John,
There aren't any public ramps on the Mag and most of the marina's no longer do the ramp thing. Fairview used to but they stopped it this year. Maybe Doug D or Ed C will see this and chime in about Podickery Point. I don't think they have a ramp but I'm not sure.
I'd think Sandy point would be the closest public ramp. It'd be a longer drive for you to get there, but once in the water, you're just a few minutes away from the Mag. I'm not too sure about the public ramps in the Middle River Area. Some of the marinas there might let you use their ramps for a fee but I've never tried any. How about the place where you used to keep Two Yutes? It would be a shorter drive for you but then you'd have about an hour boat ride. Not sure what's cheaper for you - an hour's worth of gas in the truck or an hour in the boat.
Hey Henry, anything up where you guys are?

Re: Projected Launch Dates??
John's question about launch ramps got me to thinking. We have a bunch of people at different marinas all around the middle bay. I was wondering if any of these places have ramps where you can launch for a fee? Public ramps in/around the Magothy, Severn, Bodkin area are virtually non existant (other than Sandy Point). A lot of the marinas on the magothy have stopped allowing non members to use their ramps, I guess because of liability issues.
Anyway, I thought I'd put this out and see what's available.

Re: Projected Launch Dates??
John,
Doug D chiming in! Podickory Point does not have any launching ramps. I would think that Sandy Point would be the best bet, as they have multiple ramps and plenty of parking. Of course, on the holiday weekend I'm sure it will be very crowded no matter where you launch. Hope to see everyone out there.

Re: Projected Launch Dates??
Fairwinds in Cape St Claire is another option. I think it's $20 to launch, but right across from Eagle Cove. There are two ramps.

Re: Projected Launch Dates??
John,
You're more than welcome to be my guest and launch your boat at our community ramp on the Magothy. It ain't fancy like Sandy Point, but a few miles closer and it works for launching and retrieving Moon Jelly. I can find a place nearby to park your rig or you can park it by our house, only a short walk to the beach.

John,
There is Gun Powder State Park and Rocky Point State Park. I am not sure if any of the commercial marinas have a ramp - I seem to think Maryland Marina might. Two Yutes might get a special permit to be launched at Aberdeen at the submarine testing basin?
At 40 ton, I can't say I am looking for a ramp except to move "s....." on and off the vessel. I do have 2,000lb of lead ballast that I need to move off the vessel.

Jay,
Next time you're at Fairwinds can you check and see if they still allow non marina members to use the launch. Earlier this year I was down there and I heard that they weren't going to do it any more. I think someone did some damage to a car or boat or something like that and they decided to limit the launch ramp to just their marina members. I'd hate to have someone drive all the way over there and then find out that they can't put in.

Re: Projected Launch Dates??
I think for the most part we'll just get a state park pass for something like $75.00 a year.
In & out of Sandy Point w/ as many guests as you want as often as you want, plus whatever ones there are. I used it a couple of years at Susquehanna State Park, & it's also good for land based parks if your into camping, etc.

Re: Projected Launch Dates??
Hi Greg,
I believe that is one of the last great deals around for anyone trailering their boat . Maryland has 49 State Parks and 24 of them have boat launching facilities. That is a great way to go!

The only problem with Fairwinds is that you need a GPS and an Indian guide to find it by road

Re: Projected Launch Dates??
You got that right, Tony. And, I would not like towing my boat all the way back there - feels like a 10 mile ride thru country roads, with the added fun of meandering thru cars parked on the sides of the road.
BTW - re: Projected Launch Dates?? TODAY, finally!! I'll be putting in late afternoon and cruising around with my hired help (if he has time).
Mr. Liberty Call - you going to be out? Looks like the tides are running high, so no problem getting off the lift. And, how's the Rev. Blizzard? Ya-inyet? Let's get this party started!
LET THE SUMMER BEGIN!! WOO-HOO!!!!

Re: Projected Launch Dates??
Frank, I was hoping to leave work early today but the damn DC beltway wouldn't let that happen. I actually got out early but spent almost 2 1/2 hours in traffic. I need a freaking tank! We're going to try to get out tomorrow if the weather cooperates. We'll look for you on the river or at the cove

Tony,
I was born and raised in Cape St. Claire....Fairwinds is easy. Heck, it was not that bad before College Parkway was put in. If you just go in Cape St. Claire Road, go till it dead-ends at River Bay Road, turn left and keep driving until you are at Fairwinds! The road changes to Lake Claire but Ray Charles could find it.

I'm no rocket scientist but if a marina puts a map on the back of thier business card just to get to the marina from the "main road" than the place is hard to find
