transom shower pump and other questions

Hi this may be a stupid question but on a 215 ccr that has a 6 gal holding tank does the water come from the tank of a inlet under the transom , Reason asking I thought it was a fresh water flush and I thought I had air in the system when I used the shower  it spat air and water . Then while on the rack the boat is stored I see this little inlet just under the bilge area on the bottom of the boat. I tried the shower in the rack and mostly air ..

There is also a lever coming from a hose which looks to be connected to that inlet near my sump box ... I am so lost on how all this works , it looks like the drains in the floor lead to the sump box.. what is the point of this box? Its not like im flushing motor oil out my sink or transom shower. ??

Lastly there is a bilge pump in the cabin just below the stair out of the cabin , does the sink drain into that?? its wet-damp and carpeted around the bilge .  why would that pump be located in the cabin?? I am just trying to figure this boat out any help would be appreciated

Any wisdom knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Re: transom shower pump and other questions

I have a 240LS so i can't answer the questions for your model but i will let you know how mine is set up.

    • The transom shower (and the head shower) draw water from the fresh water tank.  If you constantly have air in the line then you might have a broken/cracked line.  It is normal to have a little air in the line if you haven't used it for a while (like a garden hose) but it shoudl purge out quickly.)
    • The head has a few external connections... one is for pumping out waste, one is a vent (so that you can suck out the waste and vent gases:)) and the 3rd is where the shower sump/bilge pumps out the shower water (as well as any water that goes down the sink drain, shower drain, and i think my forward ice chest (again.. I have a bowrider.)
    • Any water in the cockpit drains overboard via cockpit scuffers near the after of the cockpit
    • There is a seprate bidge pump under the motor to pump out the "normal" bidge water (which there SHOULDN'T BE ANY since all "normal ly used water" (shower/wet swimmers, etc) is drained overboard without being dumped into the bidge.  If i find water in my bidge after a day on the lake then i know i have a leak somewhere (my boat is stored indoors so the only time it could be taking on water is during usage.)

Re: transom shower pump and other questions

Bob - Couple of things - Are you talking about the shower in the head or the transom shower?  Both use fresh water from the potable water tank - If you have a head shower you probably also have a hot water heater that has a small tank contained in it - When you fill the potable water tank it doesn't automatically fill the hot water tank - When you flip on the switch for the water pump it will then begin filling the hot water tank and you will have little or no flow to any fixtures - When you open the faucet air will come out until that hot water tank is full - Yes, it will spit and spat until it is full and a little more after - If that is not the situation you may have a fresh water filter located on the suction side of the pump that is plugged and won't let enough water thru - It may need to be cleaned/replaced.

Do you have a head/john that flushes?  Most fresh water heads use sea water to flush and there is a water inlet on the bottom (hull) of the boat - Mine is located in the bilge/engine compartment and has a on/off valve located just inside of the hull (that may be the lever you see) - Once again your boat may be different but the sump pump in the cabin is probably for the shower drain from the head - Mine goes into a similar sump along with my A/C condensate - The sinks drain out of the side of the hull - I would be surprised if there was a sump box in the engine compartment bildge - As Greg said, usually the cockpit water drains into scuppers near the aft of the cockpit and is directed out the rear or side of the boat - There should be a larger, automatic/manual bilge pump located under the engine that pumps out of the side of the boat - Hope this helps.

Re: transom shower pump and other questions

Hi Rory  and Greg thanks for answering !

my 02 215 ccr has 1) a portable pottie with no flush option all manual over the side  :-) 2) no hot water heater just a alum 5 gal holding tank for freshwater 3) a rear port mounted pump and washdown spicket with a hose that I screwed into the hole on the port side almost at the rear of the boat 4) there is now "shower" in the cabin area just the rear washdown 5) a lever pump sink

The jabsco pump activates as I hit the accessory switch while it was in the water I had some air and water coming out . I put about 3 gal of freshwater into the tank sat parked in the water when I tried it. As the boat sits in the rack at the marina I tried the same procedure and all air came out ( but the sink worked after I manual pumped the air out using the lever. . This led me to believe that the washdown is actually coming from the bottom of the boat in a intake. The lever on the "seacock" was open all day since It was my 1st trip on my boat.  Prior to the forklift lifting my boat out to go in the rack I used a dockside water hose to wash the deck and bilge area and the bilge under the motor activated but my sump pump did not pump " the bilge did my drains actually backed up . ( the sump is located about 1-2' forward of the bilge pump and is full of water and was disconnected when I originally saw the boat back in feb)

Upon being taken out of the water the attendant said there is alot of water coming out I replied I rinsed it down and waited till the auto bilge turned off & stopped pumping ( thinking I got most of the water out before lifting) The boat was very dry in the bilge area before I rinsed it down.  So basicly and there is about 3 gal of water left in my holding tank as the sink works fine. So I am like why is the washdown pumping all air now that the boat is out of the water? I am also wondering why the carpeted forward bilge area in the cabin is wet ( not puddling) there is 2 outlets on the front port side of the hull to drain for the sink as well as the outlet for the front bilge. there is also a switch in the cabin adjacent to the lights for a pump but that makes no noise when i flip the switch " but water came out after manually pumping at the sink

The "parts" guy at my local dealer led me to believe this may be a aftermarket set up to draw raw water in but it looks installed like factory

I have a feeling maybe I need to check fittings, screens and connections fill the tank and open the lever on sink and bleed air as well) If anybody has any insight it would greatly be appreciated ( I will even call you to save on the typing) my email is bsr1065@aol.com

Re: transom shower pump and other questions

sounds like an aftermarket raw water washdown pump.  The seacock should be closed unless you're using the pump, unless there's a check valve to keep water from constantly coming in.

Re: transom shower pump and other questions

Although I don't own a C/L my work gets me into alot of RV things.  The freshwater tank will never pull water from any other source, only potable water that you put into it.  The lever/pump type faucet you refer to at the sink leads me to believe that there is no pump between it and the water tank.  The water pump then will most likely supply raw water to the transom shower.  This is exactly how my buddy's Mariah is set up.  As for the damp carpet check the drain and supply lines under the sink.  Something on there may have come loose.
