Re: so cal crownies time to come out

I too just joined.  Just got my Crownline 2 weeks ago.  This is my 5th boat, but my first Crownline, definitely a huge step up from the Bayliner I had.  There are not too many lakes that you can go to close in So.Cal.  I've taken mine to Elsinore just to get it wet and it's real close.  There are people that feel Elsinore is dirty, but the city has installed new pumps last year and are constantly pumping the lake to filter the algae.  They've also done something about the Carp population, meaning limiting them, as they are bottom dwellers and tend to stir  the lake up quit a bit.  Lake Perris is virtually a waste of time as the high speed area is so small it's not worth the trip.  And this place is a real zoo on the weekend.  Your best bet.......the river.  Parker/Havasu Springs is about 4.5 hours from where I live and well worth the trip.

Good Luck in your quest for water!!!!!!!

i recently was told about a location just past Blythe on the colorado river.  Im not sure what the locations name is however Im hoping its far enough from the local weekend crowds.  I am definitley planning a trip to either Laughlin or Havasu in the near future.  I am asuming there isnt a whole lot of options going south towards san diego?  I have had mixed reviews about lake perris, I may just have to make a trip out to find out for myself.

    Tito,

We used to go out to the Blythe area quite a bit.  There is a campground there called Macintyre (not sure if that's spelled correctly)  I never stayed there as we just used to camp along the side of the river.  The river is very narrow in this area and is quick moving.  If you have kids it can be a bit treacherous.  There may be some other areas of the river that I'm not familiar with that may be better in this area.

Going south towards San Diego you'll need to take the 8 towards Yuma.  There is a spot there that I've been to a couple times about 15 years ago, I can't remember the name for the life of me, but it was an area that you could camp/RV and it was a good place to go as well.
