I agree, We didn't buy a boat to wath it sit on land. We use our boat or jet ski almost every weekend. We live in Florida so water is all around us. We either go to the lakes that are local anywhere to 2 miles or 25 from the house or an hour or two to the coast. We have a cruiser so we basically cruise to where we are going anchor and party and hang with friends we already now or new folks. Gas here on average is $3.58 gallon we have a 80 gallon tank on our boat and 17 on the jet ski and thne you have to figure in your vehicles to tow. But, if boating is you love you are willing to pay the price and WE ARE LOVIN IT!!!!!!

Well, we'll be headed to Shasta soon, 325 miles from home, 2 weeks on the lake.  Road gas will be about 3.75/gal, marina gas @ $5.50gal.

Motor home gets 8 mpg and we'll burn about 15 gal/day in the boat down from about 20/day cuz we won't just cruise aimlessly like we do sometimes.

I could figure out what the gas bill would be, but it doesn't really matter, we're doing it and will have fun doing it.............

Rationalization is a great omen...

For that reason we have a boat, and we will use it.  At 90gallons a tank, i don't see me draining the entire tank each and every weekend, but I could if i tried, that is for sure.  Thus, the bigger your boat, the more you'll save on fuel, as you don't burn anything on the hook... hows that for rationale...LOL

I figure, we spent $250 at dinner with another couple few weeks back.  We don't do that all the time, but when you think about the cost of travel, and family time, it can be higher easily and lower as well, but it is never better than it is on the boat.

So I'll do my part for global economy and buy my gas, at least until i convert my Volvo to a Biodiesel... ;^D

Wow, I almost feel guilty now.  My 185 SS only has a 24 gallon tank and we live on the lake so no tow vehicle gas if we want to go for a spin around the lake.  We do still plan to make a couple 200+ mile trips with the boat this summer though.

Sounds to me like the best way to go is to move up to a bigger cruiser!  Just think of how much MORE money you could save if you had twin 496's...

We run with a 502 and running around 2800 to 2900 rpm's with two people we average 6.5 gph with a few short wot runs.  If we add two people it will take another 2 gals.  If we run somewhere around 3500 to 4000 rpm's it's 10+ gph.  I have kept records for the last 3 to 4 years.  Cost of fuel for 07' was $1,300.

$4.099 for 93octane today in Cinti ohio
