    Re: Dobbins Island Event

It IS better to rip the cleat off the pier rather than the boat tho' isn't it?

I've got an "anchor drag warning" on my handheld Garmin...now I have to learn how it works.

I guess I'll go read those threads. Sounds like good bedtime reading.

Hope our new friends in the Severna Park/Arnold/Annapolis areas weren't personally hurt or suffered home or boat damage in today's storms. Just Nasty! We battened down up here and saw no wind at all but go 1/2 mile south and all hell broke loose.

    Re: Dobbins Island Event

Those storms were pretty amazing.  I was right in front of the funnel cloud in Falls Church yesterday afternoon as I left work.  That'll get your attention really quick. Never saw rain that heavy.  Cars were stopped all over the beltway and visibility was pretty much zero.  It wasn't too bad up at our end of the river.  Just hope the guys down at the other end didn't get whacked.

As for the anchor drag alarm on the garmin, check the main menu, settings, then alarms. It should be there and when you select it it'll give you an "on/off" option as well as an a option to set the distance before it goes off.

Talked to Ed C on Crown Jewel last nite and he and linda should be in the cove Sat afternoon for an overnight.  Not sure if we'll make it out - Kathie has a charity walk-a-thon saturday afternoon through to sunday afternoon.  I got tapped to be the group's "roady" so I'll be manning the tent, keeping the refreshments going and not sleeping all night.  Crying.  We're gonna try for Sunday afternoon.

    Welcome aboard Jeff.

Who is up for a weekend raft up on the 14th in the cove and then motor to Dobbins for the fun and show off our Crownline colors? Then we could motor back to the cove for the night.

    Re: Dobbins Island Event

Crazy weather.  We lucked out and our power stayed on, 'cept for a few flickers.  People across the street were out until late yesterday.

Well, this is Barbara's recital week and I'm playing stage manager/ sound man/ lighting designer/ photographer/ and all-around beyatch!  Her rehearsals have been this week (except for Wednesday, when AACC closed due to the storm and no power) and performances are tonite, Sat nite and Sun afternoon.  I plan on taking a spin on the Magothy sometime Saturday.  Taking off Monday to recoup and plan on being out then also.

Going to try and make it for the Dobbins Bash, also.  We'll see ya'll out there.

    Re: Dobbins Island Event

Thanks for the welcome. May get out sometime Saturday. When might I find folks in the cove? Can't make it out Sunday as have other obligations.

    Now, everyone repeat after me:

    *drink water, use sunscreen

    *drink water, use sunscreen

    *drink rum

    *drink water, use sunscreen

It's gonna be hot out there this weekend, be safe.

    Jeff,

You better read more of the forum...it is clear your priorities are not right.

        * drink rum, use sunscreen

        * drink more rum, put sunscreen on Tony

        * drink lots more rum, fall in water - no need for sunscreen

         * drink water - not the river, no need for sunscreen it's dark

         * drink more rum, no need for sunscreen anyway

and you forgot - "have fun out there!"

Did you ever make it out?  We were out in the cove with Ed and Linda until around 4 then headed home.  Ed was showing off his new A/C and his yard sale dink with electric motor.  Linda is becoming the queen of the boat bargains!  I'm thinking of hiring her to do the yard sale rounds for us.

It was hot as hades but the water was great.  It's amazing what a couple of warm days will do to the water temps.   I think it's gone up about 20 degrees in the last 2 weeks.

    Re: Dobbins Island Event

We were all set to go, had the food together, drinks were cold, etc.  ...then my neighbor comes over and says he's going to get crabs and we're welcome to come over.  End of story.Big Smile

We took a spin this evening to find Frank skinny dipping with Moon Jelly in the cove.  There was no "cool breeze" tonight for sure.  It was good to get out on the water though.  Niki wants to go swim tomorrow night, so we may be out around 630 or 7 if it's not storming.

    Re: Dobbins Island Event

Hey, hey, hey!!  You saw me get out of the water (glad I found those swim shorts in time!)

What's the plan for the Dobbins event? (yes, I think that's the title of this thread)   Are we going to try and get a Crownie contigency anchored there?  We plan on coming out - gotta check the times.

Who all is planning on coming out to the event?

    Re: Dobbins Island Event

BTW - Welcome Jeff and Tracey!  I also enjoyed Riverdale restaurant for many years.  Sorry to see it go and not be replaced - it's demise seemed kind of (pardon the pun) fishy!  It was nice to have a choice of two restaurants on the water in the Magothy.  Always enjoyed their Crab Imperial.

Keep an eye out for us in the cove (as we affectionately call "Moon Jelly" cove - another story).  I'm off this Friday and may head out there at some time during the day.  Always look forward to meeting another Crownie - our numbers are growing BeerYesCool

    Re: Dobbins Island Event

Thanks for the welcome. We went out Saturday night Around 7:30. Just prior we checked radar to see what was coming. I saw a storm over Rockville and figured we had an hour fifteen. After reaching Dobbins we opted not to head to the cove to search for Crownies as the cloulds were thickening. We got back and buttoned up ten minutes before all hell broke loose. We saw folks going through our 6 mph wake zone @ 30 to get back to their homes.

Idea  For those who don't know about it, here is the link to WeatherChannel.com's beta version of a radar map. This thing is very cool as it's basically Google maps with overlying moving weather. I think it refreshes like every 5 minutes. You can type in any address, zoom into street level or out to regional or national. You can see both radar and clouds. It's kept me dry many times:

    Re: Dobbins Island Event

Linda and I plan on leaving around 6pm on Friday heading for the cove. We'll be there through Sunday morning and all Crownies are welcome! even some non-Crownies if they have the right stuff.

Jeff you shuld have hailed the Crown Jewel we were in the cove and could have used some company through that storm. Wow!!!! what a light show there was afterwards.
