    Greetings from Oregon

Just wanted to say hello to the forum.  We are picking up a new to us 1998 182 BR with a 4.3 Mercruiser this weekend.  The boat only has 80 hours on it and the only owners are some of our best friends.  Have any advice for me and the wife re: maintenance, things to look for etc??? This is our first boat and we are super excited.

Welcome to TeamCrownline, Crownline boats and boating in general!

Has the boat been being used regularly? If so, ask your friends if you can have the maintenance records. If they don't have them, ask them who usually maintains the boat and call and talk with the mechanic. Take the boat in for a once over before buying it. If memory serves me, at 100hrs you need to have the motor/outdrive serviced. Outdrive/engine aligned and impeller replaced. Take the boat out during the week and get used to parking/backing the boat/trailer. Learn how to off-load and load the boat. Practice docking the boat too. These are all better learned with less stress of a weekend boating trip. Also, determine who's going to back the truck and who's going to off-load and load the boat. And most of all don't yell at each other. I know it's stressful, but you both are learning. Causing more stress for each other does neither of you any good. Your out for a fun day of boating, don't end it on a sour note!

My husband drives the truck and I load and off-load the boat. But there are many women out there who drive the truck. It's just who's more comfortable with which. I also have a single girlfriend who has a CCR does both. Since you have a BR, it would be easy enough for one person to do both, but you'd leave the truck on the ramp while you're both in the boat.

HTH and good luck with your new boat!!
