    Oil Pressure & Voltage issues

Hey everyone, I'm new to the site (posting) and I have a small problem.  I have two problems I need help with.  I have a 2003 225 LPX fuel injected that I bought used last year.  I had no problems last year.  This year, I have a voltage issue.  Crusing I am sitting at about 11.5 or 12 volts. (this is with the exhaust closed).  When I open the exhaust the voltage drops to around 10.  I have dual batteries and have tested both of them and they are good.  I had the alternator checked at an alternator shop and it checked out good as well.  Any ideas?  Also, at idle my oil pressure is about 15 to 20.  I am not getting any alarms though.  With any throttle it jumps up to about 40-45.  Seems way to low to me.  I checked the oil and it was clean as a whistle and full.  Any help would be greatly appreciated considering I am fearing the worst with the oil pressue issue. Thanks

I would bet your gauges are dyin. . . Could be your sending unit for the oil also.

You can buy a very cheap voltmeter at radio shack and test the battery with the boat running. You will need to have the RPMs over about 1500. There are test kits for oil pressure also. Do you store indoor or out? Lots of moisture?

Re: Oil Pressure & Voltage issues

Andy, welcome.  On the electrical side, if your alternator is good, then I'd look for a bad connection somewhere.  Maybe the master ground on the engine has gotten corroded.  Seems like a connection issue to me.

On the oil pressure, those readings sound about right.  I don't know how accurate those gauges are.  I have the Smart Craft monitor on my boat and it always shows a higher oil pressure than the analog gauge shows.  They're reference at best.  Mine drops a good deal at idle though so I think you're good.
