    Vapor Lock

This is an update from my question of a couple of months ago (enigne won't start), I was on the lake last weekend tubing the kids for a while then stopped and turned the motor off and it would not turn over again.  I got towed in and let it sit for several hours then tried to start it and it started and ran great.  I explained all of this to the local dealer and he confirmed that it was vapor lock and read several manufacturer bullitens to me and in so many words said there is nothing I can do except let the boat idle for a while after I run hard to let it cool down, he also said to run the blower for a while to remove some heat, and lift the engine cover (not very practicle).  I was hoping for a better answer than the one he gave me but didn't get it. I'm thinking about adding a second blower and I'm not sure what else to do.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    My boat is a 1999 202 with a 5.0 litre EFI engine

    Thanks!

    Re: Vapor Lock

Wow! I have vapor lock in my Datsun 240Z that I had restored. Here in SA very hot - I was told it because of high heat and humidty. Would occur once in a blue moon. I hope you get this figured out. That must be a PIA!

    Dave,

Just out of curiosity, why would opening the engine cover be impractical?  Assuming the engine cover = engine hatch.  Seems pretty straightforward and the easiest/fastest way to allow the heat from the engine to escape.

    Re: Vapor Lock

Dave, You said the engine wouldn't turn over? I've experienced vapor lock on my old Chris Craft years ago but the engine would turn over but wouldn't start. The fuel was so hot it boiled over in the fuel lines and carb. If I would start it at wide open throttle it would usually start back up.

    Re: Vapor Lock

Are you still having problems with vapor lock?  I have a 2000 305efi and its all most doing the same thing.  It will run great then I can cut it off and it wont start like its starving for fuel or it will surge rev up and down then die.  I have waited 10 minutes and I have waited 2 hours for it to fire back up.  I know it is a fuel problem but Im not convinced it is vapor lock.  I have run 2 summers in Louisiana heat and no problems and all the sudden Im scared to go out by my self and get stranded.  I know the vent hose above the gas cap is working because when filling up it burped some gas on me.  So I know it is getting air to the gas tank.  Its got to be a fuel line or bad fuel filter, but I cant accept its vapor lock and that I should just live with it....(not gonna do it)
