    Starting Issues

I've having some issues with starting my boat after it's been sitting in the water for a bit.  It may be common, I'm not sure.  Hopefully it's an easy fix or at least something that I can help prevent in the future.

Taking her out and launching her she fires up just fine.  It runs just fine until we stop.  Thursday and Friday this week we were out at the lake and once we stopped and parked her on the beach we had a very hard time starting her back up.  We played on the beach, had lunch and such and when trying to take back off then is when were having this issue.  It sounds like she wants to fire up.  I've pumped the throttle a few times and nothing.  After many attempts and several minutes go by she fires back up and away she goes.  From that point on it runs just fine as it did prior.  Someone mentioned maybe water getting up into the exhaust causing this issue.  Please forgive my newness

    Thanks in advance

    Mike

Mike, Can you explain a little more regarding  "pumped the throttle a few times and nothing".

Are you saying the engine doesn't turn over at all? Or the engine turns over but just won't fire?

Sorry Phil.  It was late and I figured I'd leave out some important info.  It turns over just fine the whole time.  It just doesn't fire up

It sounds like it is vapor locking since it starts fine, but hard starting after sitting in the hot engine compartment.  Does the gas you using have a high amount of ethanol in it?  Trying changing to a different gas station.

I've gotten gas from a few different stations.  I'm making sure that I get the regular gas here.  None with the 10% ethanol in it at all.  I do leave the hatch cover open as well as she sits

    Re: Starting Issues

Hey Mike does it sometimes try and idle and surge (rev up and down) then die, like its starving for fuel?  MIne will do that and then out of nowhere fire up and purr like a kitten.  Can cut it off and start it 3 or 4 times then bam, nothing not getting gas.  wait 10 min. or 2 hours.

No Eddie it doesn't. It just plain does not start. I think it may be starving for fuel tho. After mant pumps of the throttle it normally starts it along with some time. I don't smell a lot of gas likes it flooded either. Could the current spark arrestor not be allowing enough air to get it?

    Re: Starting Issues

Are you trying to start it without pumping the throttle first?   My boat will do this if I pump the throttle after we've been out.  Usually only pump it on the first start then she is good.    If I pump it after she has been running it will flood and I don't smell gas either.

    Re: Starting Issues

Well we had it out today again.  Although we didn't have it sitting at the beach as long as we have had it this past weekend, I had a much better time starting it.  I just tried starting it without pumping the throttle at all.  It started up the 2nd turn of the key.  Hopefully this is good news and it stays that way.  I'll try it again in the future the same way, and hopefully after sitting for even longer in the trips to come that she firs back up this same way

    Thanks all
