    Hi-n-Dry's on the Northern Bay

We're considering putting our boat in a Hi-n-Dry next season and we're looking for locations and advice on them from anyone who's in one or has been in one. I did visit one yesterday (Triton on the Elk River). We like that they (Triton) have bath houses with showers, some small beaches for our kiddies, picnic areas and a restaurant Drinks. What other Hi-n-Dry's should we look at/consider?

Oh yeah, the Sassafras and the Bohemia rivers seem to be the two we've been boating on/enjoy the most...but we're not sure if there any Hi-n-Drys on/near them.

    Thanks in advance,

    Greg

Re: Hi-n-Dry's on the Northern Bay

Greg - I'd go back to  Bill's Boats in a flash if I was going to do the hi-n-dry route again.  It's just south of Middle River on the Western Shore, about 5 minutes from Hart-Miller Island - a real popular place to just throw out an anchor.  From there, it's a reasonable trip south to Inner Harbor or the Magothy; or across the Bay to Jellyfish Joe's or the Sassafras.  The people there are the best, and when I was there, the rates were the best you could find.  It's family run, but doesn't have much in the way of amenities.  Quite honestly, I used it as a place to get ready access to the Bay.  I couldn't see hanging out at a pool - if I was going to do that, I'd just stay at home.

Is it just me that see's a bit of odd humor seeing Mr. Martinez responding to a question about "Hi-n-Dry", when his most imfamous act was to have his boat VERY "low-n-wet".

Doing just fine!  Say hello to the better half of the Dennig crew.  Hope to see you and the money pit out on the water sometime soon!

Greg I have to say Tome's is the best around. They are alittle expensive somewhere around alittle over $100/FT. It's all enclosed hardly any dust cheapest gas on the bay and no complaints with the gas girl who is 18 this year. The water is freah and clear so no worries about flushing motor. The staff will bend over backwards for you in a heartbeat. Greg where ever you choose seriously look into an all covered Hi n Dry, the only time your boat sees bad weather or damaging sun is when your on it.

    Greg,

I would have to agree with both Tony and John's remarks.  I have been at bills for the last 3 years, and they are great.  Can't beat their prices and the owners are the ones moving the boats.  Great people to deal with.  However, its not on the sas or bohemial as you stated.  Up north, Tomes has a very loyal following, and a great operation, but they aren't cheap.  I don't know anything about triton or any others over that way.

I think a better solution would be to trade the bow rider for a cruiser and keep it in a slip at duffys  Big Smile

    Mark and Greg,

I totally agree - trade the bowrider in for a cruiser....

I would vote for a slip at a marina over a hi-n-dry, simply because you can use the boat more - spend weekends on it, even in bad weather, tied to a dock.

Re: Hi-n-Dry's on the Northern Bay

I would also consider the ride from Triton to the bay when making a decision to keep your boat there.  The upper Elk is shallow with a very winding narrow channel.  I moved out of that area for that very reason.

Tomes is a great option but you may also want to look at Jackson Marine on the North East River.  You are a little closer at Jackson to the head of the bay.  The third option is Anchor Marine in North East but I've heard that they will only allow you to use their high and dry if you bought your boat from them.

Re: Hi-n-Dry's on the Northern Bay

How about going the opposite direction - going from the hi-and-dry on the Susqy to an in-season wet slip on the Bohemia or Sassafras? So, I have more access to the boat and in a more desirable area. I am tiring of the areas around the Flats (Havre de Grace, the Flats and Fishing Battery Light areas), all of which have heavy seagrasses since the beginning of July.

Any experience with these marinas: 2 Rivers or Vista Yacht on the Bohemia?       Or Skipjack or Sassafra Harbor on the Sassafras?

Two + years left on Merc warranty, 25' Cuddy.

How much does Tomes charge for winter storage only? I really like their mechanical work, and Dave Reed.Big Smile

Re: Hi-n-Dry's on the Northern Bay

I kept my boat at Two Rivers for a few years and liked it very much.  They have great owners who have really cleaned the place up and they have a gas dock right there.  It is very protected as well.  The pool is a nice extra on a hot day.

Anyone have any comments on these marinas:

Vista Yacht Basin or Two Rivers on the Bohemia

    or

Sassafras Harbor or Skipjack on the Sassafras.

How much is winter storage (only) at Tomes?

I seem to be repeating my post here.

Anyway, how is the mechanical work at 2 Rivers?

Re: Hi-n-Dry's on the Northern Bay

We have our boat at Bohemia Bay on the Bohemia river this year and hate it! The wind is always blowing which makes docking a P.I.T.A. and the spiders are horrible. If it don't sell this summer we will be on the Sasafrass again next year.

Are you looking for a wet slip or a slip with a lift- I know the Granery has a few lifts but I'm not sure if any are available. If you want a wet slip I can't say enough good about Duffy Creek.
