Todays the day I became a Crownie

I bought a new 270 CR today and will take delivery in Thursday.  I live on Riviera Bay just off of Weaton Island.  I would like to meet some local Crownies.  How many of you are out there on Tampa Bay?

Re: Todays the day I became a Crownie

    Jay,

Congrats on the new boat.  What dealer did you purchase it through?  Tracker Boats in Clearwater is where I got my boat.

There are a handful of us in the Tampa Bay area that frequent the forum.  Cliff Wilson lives in the Riverview area and has a 290CR.  Steve and Nancy Kroesen live in Apollo Beach and have a 230BR.  My wife JoDee and I live in Riverview and own a 236LS (230BR).  I saw a post recently that there is another couple taking delivery of a new boat and they also live in Tampa but I haven't met them.  There are also a few Crownies that live further south.  Last December we all got together for a Crownie Xmas party and it was a good time.  Hopefully we can do something like that again.

I've seen a few other Crownlines on the water but haven't really seen any of them on the forum.  Where are you keeping your boat?  I'm not familiar with Weaton Island.

We usually boat every other weekend on average and spend alot of time at Beer Can Island, St Pete Pier area, and Egmont Key.  Right now our boat is getting some repairs done but we hope to have it back next week.  We'll have to meet up some time.  The fall is our favorite time to go boating.  We usually do alot of trips up to Channelside for lunch or Rick's on the river.

Re: Todays the day I became a Crownie

I got the boat at Tracker in Clearwater.  My salesman was Stan.  They are having a lot of problems up there.  The shop is closing on December 1st.  Crownline will make an announcment soon on their new dealers in Florida.  I live on the water and keep my boats and skis at the house.  A pretty nice place for a float up party.  Weaton is due west of Beer Can Island south of the Gandy Bridge.  There are large sandbars there and about 40 boats every weekend.  I have seen as many as 150 on a holiday.  It is a great family and dog spot.  We love it there.

I am in on any events and would love to join the group.  My wife Sheri, Kyle (8) and Kayla (5) spend most of our free time on the water.  We just traded in a 24' foot rinker bow rider.  You may have seen us out in about.  It was black with American flag grafics on the sides.

Looking forward to meeting you and spending some time on the water.  The new 270 CR will be a great support boat fot some longer runs.

    See you soon.

Re: Todays the day I became a Crownie

I hadn't heard anything about Tracker closing.  That's news to me.  I looked on maps.google.com for weaton island and all I could find was ross, snake, christmas, and benjamin islands.  Is it one of those?  I've never been up there.  Might have to make a run up there one day and check it out.  We're always up for a new spot.

Hi Jay.  I don't really have anything to add as Ryan said it all!  We boat in the same area as Ryan, BCI area.  We have not been out much this year because we have a new born, but hope to start hitting it once it cools off a little more and the baby gets a little bigger.

Congratulations Jay! Welcome aboard. We're in the Sarasota area but sometimes get up your way although just lately have not had time to go out much at all. Am sure you'll love the 270!

Re: Todays the day I became a Crownie

    Thank You.

I have a question.  I just traded in a 24 foot BR and now I need to put the new 270 on my High Tide Lift.  The lift has 8 foot bunks right know.  Will these bunks work on the 270 or do they need changed.  Does anybody know the correct placment of the bunks for the 270?

Re: Todays the day I became a Crownie

    Welcome Jay,

We have a 250CR which we normally keep in a wet slip on Lake Harrison in Leesburg.  Sometimes we load it and take it down to the bay for a few days but most of the time, for a day boat, we take the Bayliner bowrider.  If you see the "Happy Ours" (Crownline) or "13th Check" Bayliner out there give us a call on ch 16.  We go to St. Petersburg quite often so maybe we can meet up sometime as we always like to meet new people.  We hope you will enjoy your Crownline as much as we do ours.  One year we spent six weeks on it on the TN River and had a great time.  Happy Boating.

Re: Todays the day I became a Crownie

Not real familiar with the boating around Ocala, but you are not too far from Tampa and you have a good size boat to handle the waters around here.  Lake boating vs boating the coastal areas is quite a bit different...you need to be much more familiar with the waters you are going in as they can get very shallow very quick on you and leave you grounded.  Be sure to get some charts and start studying, and if possible meet up with some of us local people the first few time to show you around.

You are probably not that far from Lake George and the St. Johns River.  That is probably the best freshwater boating in FL!

Re: Todays the day I became a Crownie

Hi Timothy,  In the Ocala area, you have Lake George which is a large lake.  The St. johns River runs through it and a lot of boaters come down from Jacksonville to boat on the lake.  There are some other Crowines here that will prob. chime in.  Also, the Oaklawaha River provides access to the Harris chain of lakes (when the water is up), where we keep our boat.  As Steve said, in Florida fresh water as well as the coast the water is shallow.  Watch that dept sounder!!!  I boated in the mountains of TN and NC where the depths were hundreds of feet deep and that was less of a concern.  This native of Florida says,  Welcome to Florida.

Re: Todays the day I became a Crownie

Thanks for the response guys.  I will keep you up to date on the move progress.  We will be going down in Dec over x-mass to continue our search for a home.  It sure is a buyers market!!!   Lot's of homes for sale and not enough buyers.  I had a closed cooling system, active corrosion protection system and Volvo's Nutra Salt system installed on the boat.  I had alot of problems with the CO free Westerbeke that I had installed in 2005 so, the replaced it with a brand new unit.  I should be good to go.  I want to do some intercoastal cruising .
