    lake wisconsin

Went across the lake the other day on the ferry, am I correct in saying the cables droop enough in the middle of the lake to not be a hazzard to boaters?

What are some of the nicer boating lakes in southern Wisconsin besides the big guys like Geneva?  Many are dammed up rivers.  Are their any clear water - sand bottom charms out there?

Chris - When we lived in DeForest, we ran Lake Wisconsin a lot.  We usually put in at Okee and ran toward the interstate stopping at various sandbars.  We rarely went down towards the ferry and never went across it's path but from what I understood, the cables were not an issue as long as you kept your distance from the ferry during crossing.

Dan - the Madison chain is nice.  It's not what I would call a "clear water" chain but does offer great boating.

Any good spots to eat and have a drink? Any good hotels on the water? I think I would have the drive trimmed up at the ferry crossing, It just doesnt seem natural to boat across submerged cables.

Hooker's is a great "grill your own steak" joint and Molitor's also has great food.  Bayside is a good place to hang and have a few drinks.   While there's a few places missing you can start with this website for lodging and other info:  http://www.lakewisconsin.org/
