    Quad Cities

Traveling down the mississippi from Dubuque to Quad Cities in July.  First time any further south than Savannah.  Planning on hitting some gambling boats.  Any other "must sees" while we're there?  Are any of the museums worth checking out?

    Hi Marsha,

For now there is a gambling boat in Clinton. A new land based casino is being built so this will probably be the last summer for the boat. Also Clinton is renovating the marina but this project is extremely slow. Hopefully the city will free up more money to complete some of the projects.

    Re: Quad Cities

We are planning on stopping in Clinton.  I have been to that gambling boat before (last summer) but it was a bus tour from our home town.  We will be staying at the marina there so we can walk to the boat.  Thanks for the reply.

    Re: Quad Cities

Is anyone from the Quad Cities area that may have some suggestions on where to go.  Maybe a sand bar to hang out at? (need MM).

    Re: Quad Cities

There are a couple of beaches that get a lot of use. Coney is near Clinton and Princeton beach. There are some nice restraunt/bars with good docks also. Albny IL, Port Byron and Princton are three that come to mind. Clinton is building a new riverside restraunt/bar but I'm not sure when it will be completed.

Wow, I was not expecting that!  I do not want to inconvenience anyone.  I'll jot your number in my river map,  If we get down there and have some questions, I just may give you a call.  Thanks

    Re: Quad Cities

    Hey Marsha,

Our group is usually at Princeton Beach every weekend, stay on the upriver side of the beach, the lower half is usually all little boats due to the extremely long sand bar. Also, after you pass Princeton Beach, you then will stop off in the Leclaire slough, which is where everybody goes when the beach gets to full. When you lock through, there are currently three gambling boats in the Quad Cities to go to, but only the Isle of Capri in Bettendorf has a marina to tie off in. After your done there, go straight across the the Mark of the Quad Cities and tie off at TGI Fridays for dinner. That's usually our Friday night after work hang out...You also have the Captains Table in E. Moline for dinner too.

Let us know when you are down this way, we will be more than happy to join you for cocktails...

    Re: Quad Cities

    Hi Brian & Angie,

Since your local you probably don't pay attention to the mile markers because you just know where everything is, but next time you get out on the water, look to see what MM (or between what MM) Princeton Beach is.  Because we don't know the Mississippi well, we have a river map we go by.  I make lots of notes on my map whenever we find a place that's nice.  I looked at my map last night and see Princeton is at the 502 MM.

I would be interested to find out the MM for Captains Table too.  Someone else we know has mentioned that restaurant but didn't know where exactly it was.  We would like to try that one out.

Are you able to get on the river yet?  We live close to the rock river and it's been closed for some time now due to flooding.  It just doesn't want to quit raining.  I am so sick of this weather!

We are planning on being in the area the week of July 21st. weather permitting!

    Re: Quad Cities

You have to lock through in Leclaire, then you will pass Dynamite Island and onc you get around the peninsula where Case IH used to be, you will see Captains Table on the Illinois side. You can cross into their marina right there or you have to go all the way down to the opening where the Celebration Belle is docked in Moline. There is a parallell wing dam that follows the channel all the way through there, and trust me you do not want to cross it.  Water is way to high here yet, plus i dont feel like tree jumping with my boat.

    Re: Quad Cities

I checked on my map and with your instructions I think I know approximately where the Captains Table is.  I don't know if we'll run into you guys or not because we will be in the area during the week.  I'll look for your boat and if I see you I'll make a point to say Hi.  Appreciate all your help.

    Re: Quad Cities

    Hello Marsha,

My name is Kathy Runge of Rapids City, Illinois. We have a 250CR  kept at mm496 at Dri-stack in LeClaire, Iowa, just across the river from us. Great place and we are very lucky to be so close. Everyone agrees with this rotten weather and high water down here, it's past time to be on the river!!!  I haven't even done my spring cleaning on her, yet!!!!

A great place to overnight, which we do a lot, is the sand pit on the Illinois side between mm 508 and 509. We just anchor out in the middle and it is wonderful. I love our pool. But last year we took our boat for a two day trip to Dubuque for an over night and ended up going all the way to lock #5!!!! Our 2 day trip ended up being nine days!! It is just beautifull up your way and we plan on doing that a lot more. We had a ball. Unplaned trips usually do end up being the most enjoyable. Princeton Beach is fun to anchor out on weekends and just stay clear and watch all the craziness. Gets very busy, but fun to watch. All great people around here and always eager to help if need. We are on the river every nice day, so please call any time. Home 309-496-1114, cell always on the boat, 563-370-4565.  Today, cloudy, rainy, high water and COLD, good grief. Look forward to boating with a fellow CR, mines only a 250. Can't wait to get out there. Wish for clear days and receeding water!!!   best wishes, Kathy Runge

    Re: Quad Cities

    Hi Kathy,

We actually live in South Beloit, IL.  We have to drive two hours over to Dubuque to put our boat in.  This year (in July) we are taking my brother and sister-in-law out on our boat for the first time and we will put in at Dubuque and head north first, going to McGregor, IA for one night.  We will come back to Dubuque, drop them off, then we are heading your way.  So we will not be in your area until probably Monday.  We have never been south of Savannah.

Last year we pulled our boat to LaCrosse, WI, put in and went to St. Croix, MI.  THAT'S A TRIP!  Another couple went with us with their boat and we had a blast!!  That was the second time we had done that.  Alot of neat towns.

We got our boat home almost two weeks ago (out of storage) and I have not even taken the cover off.  I'm hoping maybe this weekend or next.  We have the Rock river close to us, but our boat looks a little silly out there and it can get shallow.  We will however put it in once just to make sure everything is operating properly, that is if the river ever opens.  It's closed right now due to flooding.

Thanks for the tips on where to go and the MM information.  That will be helpful.  We'll keep an eye out for you.  You will probably find us docked at the casino's.
