    Respecting Mother Earth

Just need to vent a little here.  I was driving to an appointment today and was behind a driver that was going really slow.  As I passed this person, they threw a cigarette foil out the window.  Man if this isn't one of my biggest pet peeves.  Not just that it is a cigarette foil but throwing anything out the car window.  The absolute disregard for our planet is amazing to me.  I know there are laws out there for littering but they are rarely enforced.

Just makes me sad to see this.

I'm with you Kerry.  I hate when people flick the cigarette out as well.  I don't think they see it as littering.  They likely got the habit from their folks like when I was little and dad was opening a new pack, he'd throw the foil and plastic out the window.

But then, there are some who would say we litter when we run our boats up/down the lakes/rivers.  Noise pollution, exhaust pollution etc...I guess we're all dirty of litering to some degree.

Visual pollution is very popular around here (with windmills, arrival routes for aircraft etc).

In some countries, littering is still so bad that you have to be careful where you step when you walk down the side of a road... It's bad, I know. All you can do is take care yourself. Pointing others to their inconsiderate behavior is normally useless or even dangerous! Frustrating, isn't it?

    Chris,

I drive the Illinois hiways all the time.  I can't say they are the worst offenders but they definately rank up there.  And unfortunately my car has been sprayed with what I can only hope was coffee from the window of a semi.  More than likely it was something else.  It is a bummer that so many people feel that it just doesn't apply to them.  People just think that someone else can do there part and that will be enough to help out.

This has been a discussion since before many of us were born, but it hasn't been until lately that anyone has thought about doing anything about it.  I personally think that if we all did one thing different to be a little "Greener" (I hate that buzz word, how about Ecologically Aware) that this world would be better off.  If we did 2 things each that would be amazing.  I have install the energy effecient light bulbs, shower saver heads on faucets, made sure my truck is running up to par and make it a point to pick up trash if I can.

As far as driving SUV's and Boats.  Don't kid yourself's folks.  The industry has had the technology for years to make things "Greener" and safer and more fuel efficient.  But we are all guilty of not pressing the issue until now.

Our government is pressuring the auto industry now to make hybrid's.  If they would have pressured them to make better, more fuel efficient cars years ago we might not be seeing such high gas prices right now.
