back speaker wiring on a BR 180

I had a local guy wire up my back speakers today and put XM in the boat--he said that the boat was pre-wired for back speakers but the wiring only went to the throttle??  Made sense to me, with all of the threads on here about wiring up the back speakers and the purple wire, I couldnt figure out why my purple wire went to the throttle.

I took out the crappy Sony 1610 speakers and replaced them with Infinity Kappa speakers--the difference is amazing--had I had known just how crappy the stock speakers were, I would have donated them for fish reefs my first trip out.  I wasnt wanting to blast out on the water, but its nice to hear your music w/o blasting your speakers to a fuzzy noise.

    Barry,

Glad you are on the water on Rockin'.  Were the Infinity's direct replacements or did they have to cut the hole's bigger?

the Infinity speakers were 6.5"--I put them up front where the stock Sony speakers had been--fit right into the same holes just fine.  If your looking for a tremendous upgrade and only want to spend around a hundred bucks, go with these or similar new speakers in the front.

Kerry, the holes for the speakers are nearly identical but the screw holes won't line up.  I just replaced all my Sony speakers with the Infinity speakers.  None of the screw holes lined up.

Good call on the Infinitys. That's what I put in my 202, and they sound great. Same thing for satellite radio (I've got Sirius in the boat). Greatest invention since beer.

    Enjoy!

    Barry,

I just checked my '06 180 and I dont' see where these wires are.  I see two purple wires, but they appear to go to the emergency kill switch.  I also see two orange/yellow wires that are goingt to the throttle housing.

On the back of my stereo unit there are two RCA outputs that read rear audio but there is nothing plugged into them.  What color were the wires that the factory installed for rear audio?

Re: back speaker wiring on a BR 180

Not all 180BR's have the pre-drilled speaker holes under the bench. Or at least mine does not. I was looking at possibly adding more speakers next year but not sure if I want to put under the bench facing to the center of boat and toward existing speakers under the front seats or if I want to install on the sides. Any reccomendations/ No one ever pur pics of the 180BR and added speakers.

    Mike,

Dale Carlson had a very good thread that I followed when doing mine.  Search his thread for the web site.  He did an excellent job of taking pics and explaining the process.  It made my installation very easy (but my boat had the holes and harness already).

I am not knocking the infinities, but I replaced mine with Pioneers Marine speekers and I could not be happier. Just thought I would give you another/cheaper option

Garth -   FYI   -if I recall correctly, when I added rear speakers to our 04 180, the wires were purple...
