    Top Speed of your 180?

What is your top speed of your Crownline 180BR? Please tell me your engine size, WOT on the dash, number of engine hours, and prop?

I have a new 2008 Crownline 180BR with 3.0L mercruiser, it has done 20.5 hours and will only do 30mph at 4000RPM. Seams very slow to me.. can anyone help me to improve my top speed or tell me their top speed? I have a Bayliner that will do 50mph and would really like it to keep up with that...

    Thanks!!

Your RPMs at wide open throttle sound too low.  You may need to re-prop with a lower pitch to wind the motor up more.  When you don't hit full RPM on the smaller motors, you won't get full HP out of it.  That being said, I think you'll struggle to see much over 40 with that power package.  I'm sure the Crownline is a much heavier boat than the Bayliner.

imho    42mph gps tops w/3l   4600 Max WOT (  PROP maybe 23p 3 blade alum )    Ur C/L weighs more than a B/Lr  normally! AGAIN IMHO U will not see 50 mph with 3 L!!!

Lewis, we had a 3 L mercruiser in a similar size local made Aussie boat,  lighter than the Crownline. Agree with others, with a 3 L you won't get much better than 40 mph

Re: Top Speed of your 180?

I agree, I have been told that I need to repitch the prop to get the revs up but was unsure as its a new boat. It is definatly heaver than the Bayliner but I am unsure why Crownline put that prop on it if it is the incorrect pitch when brand new?

Going to try a 17p Stainless 3 blade to see if it makes any difference. Thanks!

Lewis, have you tried the Mercury Marine site, the separate prop selector site may give you a guide.

17p may be too low, if you are currently at 23p, I would go to 19pSS.  Hopefully you can test drive a few props......

Re: Top Speed of your 180?

I belive I have a problem with the engine. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the revs up on my 3.0L Mercruiser? I have now tryed a 19 and a 17pitch prop and both give the same RPM. The max revs I get is 4000 when it is ment to be 4800WOT.

My crownline needs help, great boat but very slow at the moment!

Lewis, have you had a word to your Marine Dealer, our local guy has a tremendous after sales service department. As its a new boat they should surely help you out.

Re: Top Speed of your 180?

Everythings sorted now guys! Thanks for you help.

It was a problem with the distributer on the engine, it was not ajusting the timing when opening the throttle. We now have excelent power and speed, alot better than I expected for only a 3.0L with a heavy boat. We are pulling 40mph on dash with 4 people and 46mph with just me in the rough!
