    LOTO Fuel Prices

I was down to the lake this weekend and noticed a .50/gallon difference between Johnson Bros (MM47) and Pirates Cove/Hurricane Deck (MM35).

Pirates Cove was the cheaper of the two.  What is everyone else seeing for cheap(er) gas at the lake this summer?

Not too cheap here in the Chattanooga area. Lakeshore Marina is hitting you up for $4.19 and that's for 85 octane. Across the lake at Chickamauga Marina it is $4.30 for 87 octane. The cheapest on water is Harrison Bay (a state park) with $4.09 a gallon for POSTED 91 octane, but who really knows nowdays.

    Re: LOTO Fuel Prices

We were down this last week and paid 4.28 at Lake View Resort MM11.  I guess the Toad Cove had it for less than $4.00.  Paradise Waterfront MM24 had gas at the street price if you spent $50.00 on food.  We stopped in at Capitain Ron's Waterfront MM34, they have really remodeled.  Looks very nice, great place to go.

    Re: LOTO Fuel Prices

I heard over the weekend that The Horny Toad is really struggling this year.  I think most places down there are.  Ron's was busy a week ago Saturday but man, it is nice!  Captain's Galley has spent like a million dollars since last year.  All new docks and a breaker wall.  Wasn't too busy though.  Heard the Dirty Duck (formerly JP's Point formerly The Wharf) is struggling too.  It's ugly.

It does seem like it's a lot slower down there, but there are still some busy one's.  Went to The Jolly Rogers for lunch around 12:30 and only two boats were there, but by the time we left all their slips were full.  We missed the Captain's Galley for some reason, Jane loves their Rum Runners.  Fish and Company was doing great and this was on a Wed.  We really like coming down there in June and September, with the Mississippi the way it is we might be making another trip or two down.

    Re: LOTO Fuel Prices

I think it's gonna be a tough year for any business on the lake--especially the bars/grills.

Speaking for myself, we will still be at the lake every possible weekend but the difference in fuel costs motivates us to either spend more time just on the dock or if we take a long cruise down the channel we're packing lunches.

I went to Captain Ron's on Saturday and they got busy right after lunch, but I don't know how many meals/drinks they're serving compared to the number of people sitting in the docks and on the beach.    Big ***'s was pretty busy over the weekend as well.

I heard that Coconuts spent around 7 Million.  I don't care how many drinks you sell--it's damn near impossible to make a monthly payment all year on 3 months' business on the lake.  Crazy.

    Re: LOTO Fuel Prices

I was down all last week and it was a litlle busy on Saturday but nothing like it should be. Most people are hanging on their docks or in their nearest cove. Dicks had traffic but not packed. A bunch of places will probably go under. Real estate is really slow too. Great time to buy if you are looking. Gas will fall but not in time to save the summer.

    Re: LOTO Fuel Prices

    Help me understand this:

The fuel sold on the lake is classified as "OFF ROAD" which means there are less taxes per gallon.

The fuel is more expensive than "ON ROAD" fuel at local gas stations.

I understand the "convenience factor" but shouldn't the fuel price be a little more in line with normal gas stations?

    Re: LOTO Fuel Prices

Bill, the fuel sold on the water has the same amount of taxes on it.  You can file for a $.17 a gallon rebate with the state but it's on every gallon just like on the water.  I think too, the fact that on the water isn't self serve, that they have dock attendants who have to be there so it's more like paying full serve.  Most marinas too in our area pump at least 89 if not 91 octane so now we're buying a higher grade fuel.  That kind of makes up the $.50/gal average difference.  Take off the $.17 and it's $.33 difference.  A little better anyway...

    Re: LOTO Fuel Prices

Gas at the car stations is only there as a way to get you to buy the 20oz Mt Dew, the donut or the pizza.  It is not the profitable item.  That is why you don't see the Mom and Pop stores that you used to.  We want the extras with the gas.  Now on top of that a good gas station moves 300gallons/hr, not near what the Marina will do and they do it 24/7 365, unlike the Marina,  4 months a year maybe?
