    Plates for trailers

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me if there is a size limit to trailers where you will need a license plate for it in Wisconsin? I bought a new 240LS and was mailed stickers for license plates when the boat registration came in the mail but I did not get any plates???

    Thanks Chuck

    What about Small Trailers?

Any trailer less than 3,000 pounds gross does not need to be registered in Wisconsin. Any trailer larger than 3,000 pounds must be registered with the Wisconsin DMV.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for response. I just received the plates in the mail. I received the sticker and reason why I was confused. Thanks again and safe boating.

    Hi Chuck:

I'm a little late in seeing your posts but Welcome to the forum and Congrats on your new boat!  You must have an "on-the-ball" dealer to have registered the trailer for you.  There are a ton of dealers around WI that don't know the trailer law themselves or don't care enough to get it done for the customer.  Patty is exactly right and it doesn't take much to hit that gross weight.   There are lots of people pulling boats around on trailers that should be registered and aren't.  I don't think a good part of law enforcement is even clear on the law.

Again, welcome and check out the rally at Castle Rock coming up in August: http://webpages.charter.net/travjen

    Hi Travis,

Thanks for the response on the plates. I have already started planning the trip up there for the Castle Rock trip and all is a go right now. If all goes well hope to see you there.
