    Engine won't power up quickly

2000 5.7 gs.  Starts easy.  Idles good, but seems a bit rough, but nothing to compare it to yet.  Runs good at speed.  Problem is that I have to baby the throttle to get the boat on the step.  If I advance it to fast, the engine coughs and I have to back off the throttle and try again.  Just starting to work through possible problems.  Wondered if anyone else had seen this and had any suggestions.  Only had the boat in the water 3 times and it has done it all three times.  I have adjusted the timing to the book, but didn't help.

    Thanks

first thing i would do is change the  fuel filter. If it is a carb, it may need rebuilt. I had the same problem and had the carb rebuilt, and it took care of the problem

I had this problem,  I could not pull up a skier.  If I took it up slowley I could get it up to over 65mph.

I took it into my dealer and they said my throttle cable was lose, they adjusted it and brought down my idel a little.

changed out the fule filter also.  The fuel water seperator only had gas in it.

    It now runs fine.
