    Bow Tie down Cable/Chain

Any one have recommendations on a bow tie down strap?  We snapped our winch strap trailering the 240 LS this weekend on the way home from vacation and I'd love to have some type of extra support between the trailer and the boat.  It was our 5th time trailering and we must have not had the trailer in deep enough and depended too much on the winch strap.  I purchased a new one, but also wondering what pound strap we should be using.

    Thanks,

     Jeff

Hi Jeff, haven't broken a winch strap yet, but broke the winch arm on our fishing boat last summer. When towing we always connect the safety chain from the bow of the boat to the winch arm of the trailer.

I have a chain from the bow eye to the trailer frame.  This not only keeps the boat from sliding off the trailer if the strap fails, but more importantly would help keep the boat from ending up in the back of your tow rig in an emergency stop.

I’m not saying your wrong or anything. You have probably been at this longer than I have. But wouldn’t the transom tie downs stop the boat from sliding off the trailer? And wouldn’t the bow roller stop the boat from going to far forward in a hard stop? I’m sure it would creep up a little, but that’s a lot of weight to be pushing over the roller. Plus the transom straps would only let it go so far.

Boats will fly.  Have seen the pics of it-a customer of mine on the way to Florida.  I know of a stand up Jet Ski that flew over the cab of a pickup after the trailer was rear ended.  Best to keep them attached to the trailer by any means.

A good connection front and back is the best support.  You use straps to keep the trailer attached to the boat, not the other way around.  That is based on the weight of the boat vs trailer.

Prestige had front straps available--may call them.  Others use chains for a front connect.  I have a very check cable with a clip for extra protection.
