Would like to receive advice from the Forum regarding the above boat.

with a Mercruiser 350MAG MPi 300hp Bravo 3,

We intend to use the boat on open water, What size wave can this boat comfortably handle. Hole shot for water skiing?,(slalom), what size tow vehicle?

Any other issues , strengths or weaknesses if any, would be appreciated.

hey gary i have 252 ex it is a little different design but i use it all the time in the ocean. the largest seas i have been out in so far were 5-6. it handled it well but there were rolling. It does fair in high cop, but will wet you if are going to fast. i have the 350 mag and it pops out of the water with a top in speed of 50.8 gps 52 by speedo that is 2 people in the boat and a half of tank of gas full gear. the 240 has less weight so it should do a little better. If you are going to salom alot i would go with the largest engine possible. I believe it is the 6.2 320 for the that model. the 252 ex you can get the 375 or 8.1. I would have love to have that power plant but the boat i got was at the dealership. took what they had!!!!!!!! over all a great boat!!!!!!!!!

Robbie, appreciate your advice. This is a one off existing package with the 350 power plant. Due to the sudden drop in the exchange between the US & AUS $, any new boats will be $10K more.

We absolutely love our 240LS...we've put 40 hours on her so far this season. It's a very spacious and solid boat with plenty of storage. I have the 350MAG MPI with Bravo III and in my opinion it's a great set-up for the 240LS. I've had no hole shot problems with 8 people on board (6 adults & 2 children).

I boat on the Chesapeake Bay, MD and I'm pleased on the way she handles the wakes and waves that the bay offers.

I tow with a Ford F250 diesel; pulls it around with no problem (I believe loaded boat and my trailer are approximately 6,500lbs.)

Oh yea, I'd highly recommend the Social Swim option if you anchor out for swimming, raft-up, etc...well worth the cost

2008 240LS - "Lee'Sure Time"

By far one of my favorite boats! the 240 ls and ex are great boats and will handle rough water with ease and has a lot of space for passengers. We equip most of our boats with the 350 br3 package. One thing to realize about the crownlines are that their hull designs are unlike any other boat out there. These boats don't need the extra power from the engine to make up for a shoddy hull design. I can easily push 52mph in rough water with no hesitation, truly a remarkable boat!

We have a 240LS with the 6.2 and B3.  Also a great set-up for the boat.  A 350MAG would do you fine.  We've had ours in some pretty good sized waves and felt very good about being out in them.  Our previous boat was the 202LPX and there is no comparing the two.  The 240LS for the first time feels like a HUGE boat but once you get used to it there's no question it's a boat worth getting and keeping for a long time.

We can also tow ours with a half ton truck (Avalanche) and tows very easy.  Our boat with the 6.2 engine will do 52 GPS,,55 on the speedo.

 I just recently bought a 240LS with the 350 Mag and Bravo III. I been very pleased with the boat. The power is great for my applications. I am still breaking the boat in but it comes up on a plane very quickly, with hardly any bow rise. The Bravo III is pretty amazing. I typically boat on a lake so the water conditions are generally smooth. What rough water I've been in has been handled very well. Fuel consumption appears to be in the 6 to 8 gph running in the 3000 to 3500 range. I tow the boat with a Chevy Avalanche, rated at a half ton. Tows the boat well.

2008 240 LS 350 MAG Bravo III

Hi Gary,

After many months of agonising research we have just taken delivery of a 240LS c/w Mag350 BIII. We also opted for the social swim transom and wake tower. This is my first post as we have only had the boat for 3 weeks.

Living in Perth WA most of our friends have large plate-alloy boats with high bows, but we wanted something a bit sportier as there are no fish left. This boat rides like a dream. We have only taken her offshore at Mandurah and out through Cockburn Sound to Carnac Island. As you will probably know it is only windy in Perth for 361 days per year and both of these areas get a steep chop on top of a small to moderate swell. The hull handles like a dream with no banging or crashing even into 15-20 knots of Fremantle Doctor. To be fair the passengers up front do get a bit of spray in their faces, but that's what a sports boat is for. We plan to take her to Rottnest at the end of October. The engine is just about perfectly matched, I couldn't see me needing more power unless pulling double skiers. The guys with the big fishing boats can't believe how she rides or that she pulls 24 knots at 3300 rpm with 7 people aboard.

I'm currentlt towing with a borrowed 3.0lt diesel Nissan Patrol which is very tired. She tows easily on the alloy trailer but I'm waiting for a Landrover Disco 3 before I plan any long trips away. I've towed with Landrovers before and they have always been brilliant even with much heavier boats.

Hello Clinton, thanks for the info. We purchased the boat a few weeks ago but haven't had it on the water yet. Your comments reinforce my  thoughts on the stability of the boat in choppy conditions. Our 19ss was great, but no good in a swell.  Looking forward to the extra room, handling & power. We will spend more time on Port Philip Bay & along the coast. At least we won't have to run for cover when the wind blows. Safe boating & welcome.
