    Fuel Stabilizer

I'm a new boat owner and was wondering what peoples opinions are for adding fuel stabilizer's to the gas tank when the boat is not being used as frequently and/or temperature can fluxuate a lot between night and day and the boat is being stored outside?

    Thanks,

    Re: Fuel Stabilizer

I didn't use anything last year during our first season, but I've added Marine Stabil after every fill-up this year.  I assume that fuel stabilizer was added at the dealer as a part of the winterization package.  We didn't have any fuel issues this spring.

    Kevin,

That is a great question.  I add stabil to my tank when I winterize; only because I put on about 40 to 60 hours a year.  I don't think it would hurt to add once a month or if you know you are going to have the boat put up for over a month or so.  It is all personal opinion, but I would would definately put it in when you winterize.

    Re: Fuel Stabilizer

I think this year, it's more important than ever to use some fuel stabilizer because of the 10% ethanol that is in most fuels.  The alcohol separates and can draw water and what it leaves isn't too pretty I've read on other sites.  Stabil makes a marine version that is supposed to keep the separation from happening.  Cheap insurance.  Most marinas would stabilize your fuel when they winterize it too.

    Re: Fuel Stabilizer

We just got a new 2008 Crownline ... our marine dealer recommends that we use a fuel stabilizer every time we put gas into our new boat.

Some examples they gave us are STA-BIL by Gold Eagle ( www.goldeagle.com ) or STARTRON by Star Brite ( mystarbrite.com/startron/ ).

Their product web sites give some information about their products.
