    Hull lights

    Guys,

This is my first post and I'm in need of some direction.  First, one of my thru hull docking headlights has burned out and I'm in need of a replacement.  Is there anyone that has an extra that they'd be willing to part ways with?  Or perhaps can someone recommend a few websites that carry boat products which you've worked with before and that is known for having reasonable pricing? I've visited my local West Marine store in Dallas and to me they are extremely overpriced on everything.

Secondly, my cover has ripped completely across from one side to the other.  I'm inclined to have it repaired if I can because it's a clean rip but it will take the talent and a commercial grade sewing machine.  Can anyone recommend a place that does this type of repair?

Lastly, this past weekend while on the boat, my captain’s chair was left pushed up against my trim button, leaving it pressed in the up position for probably the better part of an hour before I noticed it.  Consequently my trim refused to move leading me to think that the motor is burned out.  Fortunately it stopped in the up position but I'm stuck at the house until I can get it fixed.  Hopefully this has never happened to you before but if it has, is it the fuse/relay or the motor that typically goes when something like this happens?

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

    -Todd

For your light, you should be able to find the bulb other than a boat dealer.  Is there a number on the bulb anywhere.  I remember others getting them retail I think at Radio Shack but don't rememeber for sure.

On your boat cover, phone book should reveal a place that does custom boat covers.  I had a patch done one time on my cover...$20 and fixed.

Not sure if you have a Volvo or Merc, but the Volvo's have an inline fuse at the pump under a plactic cover.  I would suspect you have a blown fuse somewhere on that.

Todd, where do you live?  Maybe someone in your area can recommend a place locally to repair your cover.  The bulbs are hard to get to most of the time in these docking lights but shouldn't be too expensive.

I live in Dallas so I'm sure there are plenty of places around.  It's my understanding that I have to buy the entire hull light as it's heat sealed...and they are only sold by the pair?  It's not as easy as replacing a bulb from what I could tell.

You should be able to remove the buld from under the front bow cushion.  Do you have the SS lights or the plastic ones?

    Re: Hull lights

They are the SS model.  Underneath the cushion is a dome shaped white casing that houses the light.  After I loosened the clamp that held it to the chrome thru-hull piece, it appeared to be sealed completely around the lens.  Is the lens supposed to be removable to allow me access to the bulb?

Part of your post was about your cover being ripped.  I replaced the cover on my 240EX this summer by a guy in Rowlett, TX.  The name of the company is Nolan's Tops.  He did a great job.  Here's the link to his website:   http://www.nolanstops.com.   I'm sure he can repair the rip in your cover.
