    Water absorber for gas tank

    Greetings all -

I've be reading all the posts lately about stabilizing fuel and winterizing.  So, I looked at an old post that talked about this water absorber that goes in  the gas tank, a Mercury product. Since I'm leaning towards leaving my tank empty this winter, I was wondering if anyone has used this product http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/us/water-eliminator-p199068.html. I thought that there was a baffle or something in the filler neck to keep people from syphoning gas from the tank. Plus I have a Volvo set up and don't know if this thing is too big to fit inside my filler neck. For 15 bucks it would be nice to put this thing in and any water that forms from condensation would be absorbed.  Any input is appreciated. Looking forward to next year already.  Take care.

I have just started using the water eliminator. Not long enough for an opinion. If you want to try it, purchase the additional lanyard also otherwise you will not get it to the bottom of the tank.

Thanks for the reply. So you didn't run into any obstructions putting in the tank? What about the float mechanism? I'm just worried that it might hang up on something inside there and not be able to get it out. Thanks again.

The cylinder is about the size of a thumb. No problems sending it down the fill tube. So far so good with the float mechanism.

Thanks again. One last thing. I couldn't find the extra lanyard on the Merc site. Where might I find it? I'm going to order shortly and leave my tank fairly empty with stabilizer also.  I appreciate the info.

Now that you mention it, I found the product advertised on the back of the water absorber packet and had to order the lanyard through the dealership. This is a new product, so the dealer did not have in stock this summer. So Mercury does not have their website updated............. interesting.

Thanks for all the info. One last time on the water tomorrow and that's probably it. It's finally the end.
