    Hi:

    I inherited a Crownline this summer.  I don't know much about it.  I was told it is a 2000 Crownline 225 BR.  I am starting out my research on this baby.  It is in great shape.....according to the people storing it.....but it is in New York and I need to get it to Wisconsin this summer. 

    Towing weight is the issue.  It has a dual axel trailer and I guess the boat is a 22 footer?

    So..can anyone point me in the direction to find the towing weight and any other info on this boat?  I have no owner's manual and no picutres, but I know it has a Mercury I/O.

    yup...I am an old man totally new to boating.  Spent some time in my youth pulling skiers and skiing in Minnesota, but that was long time ago.  I am looking forward to getting this boat into the water.

    Hi Dave,

    Welcome to Team Crownline!!!!!

    The 225BR is one sharp looking boat that will provide plenty of smiles on the faces of all those aboard, young or old. The 225 is  22' 5" in length with an 8' 6" beam. Dry wieght of the boat is around 3700 lbs with a 5.7L engine. Add the trailer, boat fuel, toys and your tow weight will be around 5000 lbs. A standard class 3 tow hitch will work fine. I suspect the trailer will require a 2" hitch ball. A tow vehicle such as a Tahoe will do just fine towing it.

    The owners manuals are not boat model specific and generic in nature....but you can download the current manual from here .

    If any other info or help is needed, just ask. There are plenty of friendly folks here with knowledge and experience regarding the 225..

    Thanks Phil.  That is great info.  I am looking into buying my neighbors 2004 Durango.  I only have a Hyundai Santa Fe.  So I need to upgrade.  But the info on the boat, the link for a manual, the advice and help has been priceless.  I will be out here asking more as I get closer to bringing the boat home.  Thank you and I wil make use of this forum and soon be able to add to it.

    The Durango would be a fine towing vehicle for that boat.  I have a 2004 with the Hemi in it and have pulled some trailers with it without a problem (Not my boat though).

    Crownline's 04 literature give 3800-4000  lbs  dry weight for the 225...that said a tandem trailer around 1200 lbs & your at 5000 lbs. Fuel capacity 58 gal x 7lbs/gal = 406 lbs    anchor, gear, coolers etc & your fast pushing 6000#s.

     

    Wish I had such friendly rellies to leave me a boat like that!!!   Thats a G R E A T  boat!!!

    First...I am truly thankfull for the responses. 

    Second....I am learning fast.  I will probably pick up the 2004 Durango.  the miles are under 50,000 and it has the towing package rated at 8900lbs.  AND....if anything goes wrong I know where my neighbor lives!! :)

    I do need to check on trailer brakes and things like that.  Much to do before I drive out to NY from WI.  But now I have the beginning of a plan.

    Seriously  I am very thankful for the help.  I still have much to learn.  I am a mile from Lake Michigan and ..... well the fishing might be better off shore.

    Dave,

    If you have a contact where the boat is currently stored, it would be worthwhile to find out what type of electrical connector that the trailer has on it. Most likely it's a 4 pin flat but there are several other types of connectors that could be on the trailer as well. Making sure the trailer electrical connector will mate up with the tow vehicle will prevent a headache once you get to NY.

    Trailer brakes will most likely be hydralic surge brakes, unless the trailer for some reason was not equiped with brakes. Trailer brakes are usually fitted on one axle only. The older surge type brake couplers required a key/pin to be fitted in the coupler to prevent the brakes from actuating while backing uphill. If you don't receive a key/pin with the trailer when you pick it up, make sure while you are towing back home that you avoid situations which may require you to back uphill.

    Don't forget the lug wrench and jack.....just in case you have a flat tire out on the road..

    The durango should have a 7 flat pin connector on it, so an adaptor down to a 4 flat would be required.  Not a big deal, about $10 anywhere.

    Again...I am in your debt.  Thanks for all the info.  I bought the Durango.  4.7 engine and the factory towing package.  I need to get a ball mount and probably a new ball. The electircal connections is a 7 way round connector.  I have emailed for specifications on the trailer.  I don't even know if the tires are good, or if it has brakes.  I should learn more this weekend.  I leave the second week of August to go pick it up.  Probably won't get it in Lake Michigan this year, depending on wht needs to be done, but I will get it ready for next year.

     I am learning fast.  Thanks to all of you.

    Well....I got the boat.  It is in pretty good shape considering it has been in salt water the last 4 years.  I am dealing with the salt corrosion and the mildew.  The boat was winterized last September so I am cleaning the corrosion, mildew and dirt and storing it until next season.  It is indoors the lower unit is off and things are looking up.  I have never towed a boat before and I had to tow this monster through the Bronx,  Manhattan, across the George Washington bridge and into New Jersey.  Then I had to drive it through Chicago...not around...through.  Learned a lot I did.  Guess the only thing left to do now is take it for a cruise through LA and then back home.  I am thinking it will go in Lake Michigan next year.  I am pricing slips.

    Thanks again for all your help.  I never would have made the 1100 mile journey with out guidance.

    Hi Dave,

     We are new to boating too.  Never towed a boat before until I had to bring our new baby home to get it cleaned.  We also had a hard time finding out how much the trailer itself weighs.  Nobody seemed to know.  I did find some helpful advice.  On the trailer, it will have the GWVR.  This is the maximum combined weight of the trailer including the weight of the boat.  This is good to know if no one knows the weight of the trailer.  The boat weight seems pretty easy to find out.  Our boat is a 2009 220ex deckboat.  Thought our pathfinder could pull it but even this boat was 500lbs over our 5000lb max towing limit.  Crownline sure makes a heavy but well built boat.  other boats this size, we would have had no problem towing.  Goes to show you how cheap the others are out there.  We ended up renting a UHAUL pickup truck.  This works great if you do not have a truck to borrow.  Only $39 a day!  Enjoy the new boat!

    Hi Dave,  my boat is also a 225 with a prestige tandem axle trailer, with a full tank of gas and loaded with gear it weighs 6,317 pounds.
