    206LS Prop Question

I am interested in switching from a three blade aluminum to a four or five blade ss prop. I have a 220hp 5.0 Merc/Alpha One setup on my 19.6 ft Crownline 206LS. I pull a wakeboarder and I am constantly adjusting the throttle to stay on plane. My boat came with a 21pitch Merc aluminum prop and my dealer provided me a 19 to assist w/ holeshot. The 19 pitch three blade aluminum is just not getting the job done for pulling a wakeboard. The cruising is fine with the 19 degree three blade. I do not mind loosing a few MPH at top end to improve the hole shot and ability to stay on plane when pulling a skier. The primary usage of my boat is cruising and skiing. The two props I am considering are:

    Vensura 19 pitch 14" diameter

     Highfive 19 pitch 13 1/4" diameter

Please chime in and let me know your thoughts or any suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Brandon

    Re: 206LS Prop Question

I just recently moved down to a 19p High Five from a 21p. Both are 13 1/4" diameter. The 21p was just a little much for my V-6, but I'd think it would be perfect for your 5.0 V-8. We wakeboard and ski alot and the High Five is great, will stay solidly on plane down to 18mph and hold your speed solid, no throttle adjustments necessary. I do hit the rev limiter with a light load with the 19p. so I have to watch it.  If your interested in the 21p High Five, drop me an e-mail at wpoling@dishmail.net It is for sale.

    Re: 206LS Prop Question

    Brandon,
My kids got me a 21" High Five for fathers day.  Awesome prop!!!!  It performs as well from in the boat driving(huge cut back on speed adjustments) as it does out of the boat on a wakeboard(no more pulling out of the wake to find the boat is short power on the end of the rope).  Having said that the High Five is a little smaller in diameter which they did so that you could do a direct conversion from the factory 3 blade props which is what I did (I had a 21X14.5 SS).  I have the 4.3L 190HP and it runs 44-4600 WOT, I get about 47-48 MPH WOT, and the hole shot is great with the new High Five.  I was getting 52-53MPH with my 3 blade SS but in my opinion if you are going to sacrifice anything, come off the top end as you'll only use it once in a blue moon with water conditions and other variables.  The boat also performs better in rougher water, holds plane at lower speeds, and doesn't seem to wander so bad at low speeds or in reverse so its a win all the way arround as far as I am concerned.  If your going High Five I would say stick with the same 21" pitch as the boat came with and you won't regret it!  Stick out tongue

    Chris

    Re: 206LS Prop Question

Thank you to all who replied. While sitting here reading your reviews, I had a notion to go out and double check the original and replacement props. I remembered having a 21 pitch and thought I migrated to a 19. It turns out the original prop on my boat was a 23x14 3-blade Mercury Black Max aluminum prop. The replacement prop supplied by my dealer, for better hole shot, was a 21x14.5 Mercury Black Max 3-blade aluminum prop. That said, I am still swimming in information overload!! In considering a Highfive, do I need to stay w/ the 23 or go with a 21 or 19 pitch? My Wife drives the boat as well and the last thing I want is her to over rev the motor. Thanks again for any suggestions, I appreciate everything.

P.S. When using the prop selector on Mercury's web site, I am given the response of 17 pitch. Does this seem right?

    Re: 206LS Prop Question

    Good Evening,

I purchased the Merc High Five 19 pitch. In real choppy waters with four adults, full fuel and gear, I was able to run 44mph at 4600. For $429 I was able to acquire a whole new boat (at least that is what it feels like). I no longer have problems pulling skiers, the boat planes quickly and effortlessly. In addition, the boat holds speed when faced with turbulent waters. I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Brandon
