New 2007 Crownline 180 BR Owner

Bought this boat in June with only 60 hours on it. I have had boats all my life and so far this one is my favorite. Can anyone tell me what pitch prop comes on this boat from the factory? It has the 4.3L Mercruiser. The prop on it now is a 17" pitch stainless and the engine will easily reach the rev limit. That makes me wonder if the prop was changed to a lower pitch than what was factory installed.

It is carbureted (190 hp). I was also guessing 21. 4" seems like a pretty big jump, but maybe not. Thanks for your reply.

On my 04 180 I ran a 21 P SS 3 bl Ballistic & trimmed properly was able to get 54 MPH GPS.....it was a great nimble, fast, trouble free boat...300 hrs in 3 years....(ride left something to be desired however!)

Yea, I know what you mean about the ride. It will beat you to death in a fair chop.

I have a 2000 182 BR and it has a 19p prop. That's not to say that it is original but judging by the dings it has I'd say it probably is.

Re: New 2007 Crownline 180 BR Owner

Thanks for your reply. I think what I will do is beg, borrow or steal (OK, I won't steal it!) a 19" prop and try it out. If that is not enough, then I'll get a 21" and see how that works.

Re: New 2007 Crownline 180 BR Owner

    Dave,

My first Crownline was a 1993 182BR w/ Carb 4.3 Alpha 1 set up in it. I do not know what the gear ratio was on the Alpha 1 but I tried several props and the best prop for hole shot and speed combined in one package was a 21 High Five Stainless. I think I paid about $500 for that prop back '94. See if your dealer will let you try one out. Good luck w/ your new boat!

Re: New 2007 Crownline 180 BR Owner

    Thanks,

I think I'll try both a 19 and a 21 and see which I like best. I need a decent hole shot for skiing, but I don't want to over rev it either.

Re: New 2007 Crownline 180 BR Owner

    Dave,

Not sure what pitch you should be using.  I have a 2007 19SS and I am on lake conroe.  I had a 21X14.5 SS three blade prop on prior to putting my 21X13.25 High Five.  I also have an aluminum prop the boat came with which is a 21" pitch as well.  If you can ever get over to conroe we could give one of my spares a try.  If I were to guess it would be either the 19" or 21" prop though.

    Thanks,

    Chris
